• Reach out to the Career Coach, Mr. Johnson, or the College Adviser, Ms. Holliday

    • You can apply as early as October 1st

    • The priority deadline is typically on March 1st

September - May: 

• • • The Virginia Placement Test is required by Virginia community colleges to place you into English and Math courses.

    • This step may be waived due to COVID-19 restrictions, but you may still be asked to complete a practice placement test in order to place you in the best courses for you

    • Exemptions from taking the test

1. If you have been dual-enrolled you will NOT have to retake it 

2. Certain SAT/ACT test scores and GPAs 

3. The higher you score, the less developmental classes you may be scheduled to take for Math and English, this means you could skip classes by doing well on the VPT! There are studying resources on their websites as well.

• You will need your ID Number (also known as your EMPLID Number) to test. There is a math and English portion of the test. The math portion contains 30 multiple choice questions from Algebra I, and then several individualized units that are broken into two sections. The English portion contains 40 multiple choice questions and one 500-700 word essay. These test scores are valid for five years.
