Change for Change

We are ramping up for a great year of supporting students through Rapid Relief! Rapid Relief provides food, clothing, and other essentials for our students. Our first initiative will be Change for Change, a change drive taking places during lunches. We have been collecting change since last week and will continue collecting, during lunches only, through the end of the week.

Coats for Kids

James River HS is participating in the Coats For Kids campaign sponsored by Puritan Cleaners. They will clean and repair donated coats before delivering them to the Salvation Army for distribution to local families in need. With over 400,000 coats collected over the years, JRHS want to be a part of contributing to our community in this wonderful way. Please drop off new or gently used coats by Tuesday, November 27th. We are accepting contributions in a box, labeled "Coats for Kids", in the main lobby outside the main office. Help us fill it up!

District and School Updates via Text

Schoolmessenger now sends text messages. Did you opt in? You recently received information from the district that we are adding messaging capability to SchoolMessenger, the parent/staff notification system we use for mass phone calls and emails. The system will be configured to send text messages to cell phone numbers whose recipients have agreed to receive them. Given text limit of only 160 characters, the school division will utilize text messaging when the message length/content is appropriate for a text message or when timeliness is extremely critical.

The only requirement is that you must agree to receive them. There are two ways to do this:

1:Chesterfield County Public Schools sent a one-time text message (from “67587”) with “opt-in” directions to all phone numbers we have in our system for you in late October. (Please see the below note regarding numbers in the system.)

2: If you did not receive a message, you may “Opt-In” by sending “Y” (or “Yes”) via text message to our SchoolMessengerShort Code number, which is 67587. You may do this at any time.

1. The text message function is only for Chesterfield County Public Schools families and staff, and only includes phone numbers (including emergency contacts) that we have in our student information system.

2. The profile/contact information for students/families comes directly from our schools. If any contact information should change throughout the course of the year, you would need to contact your child's school.

  • Standard message and data rates may apply.
  • For help information, text HELP to 67587.
  • To opt out at any time, text STOP to 67587.
  • Participating carriers: AT&T, T-Mobile®, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Alltel, Boost, U.S. Cellular™, MetroPCS and other carriers. The mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Student Athletes Recognized

We have partnered with Essex Bank, the official bank of James River, to recognize weekly one of our outstanding student athletes, The JRHS Essex Bank Player of the Week. Essex bank took the winners from the fall season and posted a link on their Facebook page for fans to vote for their fan favorite. The winner selected was Conner Dusenbury. Congratulations, Conner, on a great season!

Stay tuned -- we will start recognizing our student athletes again in January!

Thank you!

James River High School would like to thank Toast for so graciously supporting our 2018-19 Rapids Football program. Toast supported our team by providing dinner to our players before each home game this season. Your generosity and support mean more than you can know. Thank you for being such a fabulous community supporter!

Winter Exam Schedule

Here's this year's schedule for Winter Exams. Winter Exam Schedule

Students are expected to be present for all exams and are expected to sit for exams on the dates/day scheduled. Seniors may be exempt according to the Senior Exam Exemption Policy. Students must make prior arrangements with an administrator if they are aware they will miss an exam day. If a student is absent on the day of an exam, a parent must contact the school at 804-378-2420 and speak with the appropriate administrator for approval for exam make up arrangements. Exam credit for make up exams will be based upon the reason for the student's absence and the student's attendance record for the class. Failure to contact a school administrator before the administration of an exam will result in a zero on the exam.

2018-2019 Winter Exam Schedule

Cornerstone Breakfast, November 2018 - "Perspective"

We want to congratulate all of the students recognized during the first quarter's Cornerstone Breakfast, where students were nominated by faculty for representing "Perspective" in class. Thanks to Katherine Wintsch, an entrepreneur and CEO of The Mom Complex, for being our keynote speaker. Her talk highlighted how as individuals we need to slay the self-doubt that we carry around that often begins when we are younger. Katherine has a book coming out March 2019 (available on preorder from Amazon now), entitled, Slay Like a Mother. We thank Mrs. Hewlett for organizing this opportunity for our students to be recognized and to our Clarity board for providing breakfast.
