The Virginia's Governor's Academy for Engineering Studies opened its doors to 38 incoming freshmen in the fall of 2000 as the Pre-Engineering Specialty Center at L.C. Bird High school. That day started the journey to what today is a high-level, college-preparatory program that has graduated hundreds of high school students who have gone on to become engineers, doctors, school teachers, business owners, and more!
When asked, students frequently sight the engineering curricula's emphasis on problem-solving, critical-thinking and collaborative projects prepared them for college as well as the workplace.
A student doesn't have to become an engineer to benefit from this advanced curriculum. If you like solving problems and applying what you learn in class in creative and unique ways, you may be a perfect candidate to be the next Skyhawk Engineering Student!
