Short description
NeuroAI and psychology often adopt different empirical methods and modelling approaches to understand the mind and brain. In NeuroAI, researchers tend to evaluate how well models predict behavioural and brain responses to naturalistic stimuli, with the goal of building models that are more aligned with biological intelligence. That is, models that compute with human-like representations. By contrast, in psychology, researchers tend to model the results of experiments that manipulate artificial stimuli to test specific hypotheses about biological intelligence. These different methods often lead to different conclusions regarding the successes of NeuroAI thus far. In this GAC, Jeffrey Bowers will motivate the GAC in the kickoff workshop, and 7 speakers adopting a variety of empirical and modelling approaches will defend their perspectives.
