Course Description: This is the second level studio course in the high school art curriculum, concentrating primarily on the varied disciplines of drawing and painting. Developing further the knowledge of the art elements and principles, this course emphasizes classical subject matter for life drawing in a variety of media. The painting section of the course gives the student experiences in watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and oil painting; in the areas of still-life, illustration, abstraction, and mixed-media. The three aspects of art; form, content, and context are continuously stressed throughout the projects. Art principles of composition, such as balance, proportion, and perspective are emphasized as well.
