My master’s thesis re-imagines how are the future food city of KL would be like when most of the productive land in Malaysia is now being utilized, future increases in food production will have to rely on increasing agricultural productivity. (Prof. Nasir, 2019) The raise of Malaysia’s population and our Malaysia food system especially in Kuala Lumpur city region are the factor that should be taken in this thesis. Food security issues remains a top concern in new normal that we are facing at the moment especially towards the low-income group household level. Hence, these factors should be resolved in an integrative manner in order to build a sustainable food community.

The design intention of this project is engaging low-income group household in urban agricultural programs ; transforming the urban low-cost housing as a viable site of the future urban food system. Taking the advantage of our current PPR and low-cost public housing that scattered around in Kuala Lumpur (KL) city were occupied 32,762 units [45.2%] out of the total 72,439 units low-cost houses were built in Malaysia. Low-cost public housing that located at K.L into an urban food production hub(food node)to build a sustainable urban food community network in our city and contribute to the surrounding neighborhood.

Furthermore, this proposal (a sustainable urban food system ) able to ensure our urban food to be secure for all the groups in the future while possible to reduce the wholesaler transportation and retailers’ cost. Also, it is to create a new positive image for low-cost

housing where forming an inclusive platform to breaking social barrier and division of classes between different groups household level.
