Design Center of the Philippines is an agency under the Department of Trade and Industry which is "mandated to develop, enhance, and promote the design of Philippine-manufactured handicrafts". Led by Arturo R. Luz during its first inauguration, it gained success in the early years with the Philippines being coined as the "Milan of Asia" as several internatonal awards were won by Filipino designers. It paved the way of the country's presence in the design and creative Industries
Although full of potential, the agency slowly stagnated and depreciated. Under facilitated, lack of space, and overall bad working environment were the raised issues which contributed to the inefficiency of the agency causing the DCP to be held back from fully achieving its mandate in serving the people
The purpose of designing the new Design Center of the Philippines headquarters is to revitalize and convey a stronger and reliable government agency that's goal is to promote creativity, innovation, and design value that will help the development of SMEs and other local products and services. It is also to become a beacon and nexus to the country's present and future aspiring designers providing them a one stop creative hub equipped with necessary facilities where they can improve on their crafts, explore new design, and connect with different people
As a country that was once coined as the "Milan of Asia", bright and promising future awaits in the potential of the Philippines in solidifying itself in the Global level as top designers and manufacturers. By providing a new complex that conveys emotion and artistry, it will serve as an inspiration to both the future and existing DCP employees in striving for the best output and designs which will greatly benefit the country and the world.
