Who would benefit from CTC:
older students who have a good speaking vocabulary but are reading two or more years below grade level
students who have learned many sight words, but when they come across a word they don't know, they simply skip it.
students who take a great deal of time to read a passage and when they have finished, they are unable to tell you what they read. Yet, if you read the same passage to them, they can give you the answers to the questions.
students with a large discrepancy in oral vocabulary versus reading vocabulary and in their inability to spell words correctly.
students who do not know what to do with the word when they are told it is incorrect. Most of them will avoid writing altogether or copy what they see.
Who would NOT benefit from CTC:
students who read words fluently, quickly decode unknown words - but still are unable to answer comprehension questions.
Your Literacy IP has one CTC set available for use per school.
Fluency assessments are recommended for pre and post tests for this program. More information on how to do this can be found at the link to the PD page below.
