Carline Traffic Guidelines
Morning Procedures:
1- Form two lanes of traffic once in the parking lot.
2- Join the shortest line.
3- Pull up to the car in front of you. The first car will stop at the cones.
4- Students will exit the vehicle on the WHISTLE only.
5- Only the cars between the cones will unload on the whistle.
6- Students need to be ready to unload quickly. Parents should stay in the car.
7- Once all students are unloaded, traffic will be released one lane at a time.
8- DO NOT change lanes once unloaded. Vehicles do not move until directed.
9- Traffic should “zipper merge” once released. Take turns merging into the single lane – just like a zipper closing.
*WAIT for the WHISTLE to unload.*
Afternoon procedures: - Please be patient. -
You may use either lane of traffic in the afternoon.
Place your River Ridge Elementary numbered placard(s) in the front windshield on the side closest to the center line in the road.
Pull all the way up to the car in front of you and remain in your car.
*For the first few weeks you may stand outside of the driver’s side door to help your child locate you. Staff members will help our younger students find their car for the first few weeks.
With safety being a priority, students will be waiting in the gym until they are called to the carline. Once we have called 12 cars (6 on each side) and traffic has stopped the students will be released to walk to their vehicle.
Keep your vehicle stationary and in park until signal to move is given. You may not pull around other cars once your child is in the car, you must stay in line. The round of cars (12) will all be released at the same time.
Do not change lanes once the teacher on duty has recorded your placard number.
If your child has not come out by the time traffic begins to move, pull down to the last staff member on duty and let them know. You will then pull all the way down to the end of the sidewalk and we will get your child to you as soon as possible.
*Every student in the building is assigned a number and will need a carline placard.
This includes students who are walkers, daycare, or bus.*
If you do not know your child's dismissal number or need a placard, please contact yourchild's teacher.
