I love to read, quilt, bake, enjoy the outdoors and being a mom and Nana. I  reside in Columbia County with my husband and our red heeler.  I am honored to team with the staff and I still get excited each year when school begins. I love seeing returning students and getting to know new students to the building.  Each day I encourage our Wildcats to ROAR!

Welcome to The Parkway, home of the WILDCATS, where we LEAD THE WAY THE WILDCAT WAY! My name is Dr. Carey Anne Cushman and I'm excited to serve as Parkway's Assistant Principal. I began my teaching career in 2004 and have experience teaching at both the elementary and university level. I have taught first, second, third, and fourth grade, and served as a Reading Specialist where I taught intensive students using specialized reading intervention programs to target specific reading needs and deficiencies. I also spent 5 years as an Instructor for the College of Education at Augusta University where I taught Early Childhood Curriculum and Classroom Management classes, and supervised lab students and apprentices.

A few of my awards/honors include: Golden Apple Teacher, Augusta University College of Education Outstanding Graduate Student, Augusta University College of Education Outstanding Undergraduate Student, Govenor's Leadership Academy (GLSA). In the area of professional development, I am certified in the following: Google Level 1, Google Digital Citizenship and Safety, Common Sense Educator Digital Citizenship, and Flipgrid. I am also a Columbia County School District EdTECH Innovator. My educational interests include new teacher induction; MTSS; visible learning; the value and validity of grades; diverse mentor texts and the importance of read alouds; and social-emotional learning (SEL) for PreK-5 students.

When I'm not at Parkway, I  enjoy spending time with my husband (Brandon) and our 2 sons (Branson and Beck), and our sweet pound puppy (Dixie-Doodles). One of my favorite things to do is throw on a baseball cap and do a little RZR riding with my family. I also enjoy reading true crime stories, watching documentaries and collecting children's books!
