About Ms. Shields
My name is Doc Shields and I teach Healthcare Science. I am a medical sonographer, that means I do ultrasounds and work with radiologists. I have always loved teaching and the medical field. I trained as a first responder, EMT, after college and in 2020 I became a sonographer. I have been married to my amazing husband, he is also a teacher, for nearly 19 years and we have two wonderful children, ages 12 and 13. We moved to this area in 2011. My son was born with a congenital heart defect and that is what got me interested in ultrasound. I love to travel and I have been all over the world and country. I am also the HOSA Advisor!
Welcome to Healthcare Science!
I teach Introduction to Healthcare, along with Mr. Wright, and I also teach Essentials of Healthcare. Those are the first two classes in the Allied Health Pathway. These classes teach you about the foundations of healthcare, hands-on skills, patient care, anatomy & physiology, and offer guidance on what it takes to be an ethical and employable healthcare professional.
