Ms. Morris's Class

Fifth Grade

There are many exciting things to do and learn each year in 5th grade! We will read novels and informational books and discuss them in our book clubs. We will study math concepts like volume, fractions, multiplication, and geometry through manipulatives, lessons, and projects. We will do exciting writing projects from writing a personal narrative about an interesting experience in our life (riding your first roller coaster? getting stuck in a tornado?), to researching a famous person's life and writing a speech to perform for our "Living Museum". We might even write a novel! You might get to study decomposers by observing mold growth in various conditions, or study the transfer of matter by finding a plant's mass before and after it grows. You will get to consider why the moon changes shape, why shadows change throughout the day, and why we see different stars in the sky in different seasons. You will also get to learn about the people who came before you in the United States, whether they lived here from the start, settled here, or started this country.

News From Fifth Grade

School Year 2021-2022

I am excited for a great school year! I hope you had a great summer!

Reading

The very very very VERY best thing you can do for your student reading-wise is make sure they are reading for at LEAST 20 minutes each day every day!

Science

I hope you spent some time outdoors enjoying nature this summer!

Math

If you want to practice math over the summer (or any time), one great resource is Khan Academy. Another thing that is always helpful to practice is multiplication and division facts.

Writing

A great thing to do in summer, or anytime, to keep your writing skills going is to do some journal writing.
