The Evolution of the Relationship with God
Prehistory :The divine is manifested everywhere: in thunder, rain, and animals. God is the immediate explanation for natural phenomena and the force that ensures the continuation of life.
Medieval Era : God is perceived as a distant and sovereign figure. The Church acts as an obligatory bridge; common believers do not access the scriptures directly (written in Latin) but rely on saints, priests, and sacraments. There is a greater emphasis on the fear of God, viewing earthly life as a "valley of tears" to be endured for celestial reward.
Modernity: Human beings become the center of thought. The relationship with God becomes more direct and personal, shaped by individual context. God begins to be seen as the "Great Architect" of the universe or as a personal ethical guide, moving away from rigid institutional structures.
Present Day : The prevailing sentiment is: "I believe in God, but not in religion." The bond is subjective and intimate; God is viewed as an energy, an inner peace, or a "companion on the journey." Authority no longer rests with the hierarchy (Pope or Pastor) but within personal experience and spiritual fulfillment.
