Temas:
Sincretismo religioso
The subjects are going to be explored through an individual research project that reflects an autonomous and creative work.
You have the chance to prove yourself, not only regarding knowledge but specially regarding how you apply your knowledge in the real world.
For this to happen, you need to check the following info. Try to think which kind of project suits best for your own interests and talents. Remember that the general topic of this term is SYNCRETISM.
Syncretism is one of the many processes that explain the origin of doctrine and ritual in particular religions. You could say is the natural way religions change and develop over time and space. Sincretism, briefly defined, is the mixing or overlapping of beliefs and practices between two or more religions. In Latin America, for example, when the Spanish Empire invaded and established colonies on the continent, there were syncretic processes between the indigenous religions of the region and Christianity. African beliefs have been mixed with Christianity in countries like Haiti and the Dominican Republic, even establishing new religious practices like Voodoo and Santería.
Some of its causes are:
Forced or coerced coexistence of different religions in a single place (for example, the Kashmir Region in Southeast Asia): colonization, inculturation, invasions.
Telecommunications and globalization as a general way of mixing cultures in several places simultaneously (including religious practices and doctrines of several countries).
Migration, tourism, trade, and other forms of travelling, sharing your religious experiences with other people.
Proselitism or non-violent direct influence of other religions into foreign lands (Christian evangelization).
Some of its consequences are:
Conflict or tensions in the region (when syncretism is due to forced coexistence, for example)
Forming of new religions or spiritualities (this is happening right now with New-Age influences, thanks to social media).
The development of new practices in old established religions (like Islam or Buddhism in Western Countries, or Christianity in Southeast Asia)
Preserving of old traditions in new-found religions (like pagan practices in Europe after the arrival of Christianity).
The following video shows an example of syncretism and christianization (to turn pagan practices into Christian ones for the sake of evangelization): the Crux Ansata and the Egyptian Ankh. You can emphazise on one religion or several, depending on your own capacities and the time you have to spend in research and creative work.
