NAPOLEON & THE FRENCH REVOLUTION
In these two videos you have a pretty good summary of the relationship between Napoleon and the French Revolution.
Consider in these videos the following:
How Napoleon considered himself the 'Incarnation of the French Revolution' and why.
Why Napoleon was so hated by the nobility of his time.
How he rose to power, from a simple soldier to Emperor of France.
His several innovations in war-waging, code of law (Napoleonic Code), economic issues (Bank of France), international diplomacy (Continental System)
The rivalry between the British Empire and Napoleon.
The special relationship between the invasion of Napoleon in Spain and Latin America's Independence Process.
The Coalition Wars and how they shaped Europe's Imperialism until the First World War.
The Congress of Vienna, held in 1814-1815, was a series of international diplomatic meetings that aimed to restore peace and stability to Europe after the Napoleonic Wars. Representatives from European powers, including Austria, Britain, France, Russia, and Prussia, met in Vienna to redraw the map of Europe, restore monarchies, and establish a balance of power. The peace lasted for about 30 years until a new generation of revolutions shook Europe in 1848. After 1848, several monarchies turned into empires. Less than 40 years later, in 1884, Europe started what is known as the 'Scramble for Africa' with the Berlin Conference.
After watching the video, consider the following:
How the New Imperialism implied a specific mode of governance based on conquest and competition.
How the 'Scramble for Africa' is similar to the colonization process in America.
How Eurocentrism and Racism were crucial ideologies that shaped global politics in the late 19th century.
The short and long-term consequences of European colonization of Africa, especially for African countries nowadays.
How the European empires started to clash with one another for resources.
