On the following section there are some questions with their answers. Before you read the answers try to do it by yourself!!!!!!!!
🔬CELLS🦠
Problem 1
What are the parts of the cell and its function? (mention at least 3)
How are cells classified?
Answers:
Membrane: it protects the cell. However, in prokaryotes it also helps with the production of energy.
Cytoplasm: the liquid inside of the cell.
Nucleus: it stores the DNA.
Mitochondria: it is the power house of the cell.
Nucleoid: it stores DNA in prokaryotes
Ribosomes: protein factories
Here you have several options! Just pick 3.
They are classified in two groups. Prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotes are those who don´t have nucleus, instead they have nucleoid. Eukaryotes are those who have nucleus.
Problem 2
Let´s assume that you are a scientist and with your microscope you see that a cell has nucleoid and flagellum. Is it a prokaryotic or eukaryotic cell? Explain.
With a microscope you see a microorganism that has mitochondria and membrane, but no cell wall. Is it a prokaryotic or eukaryotic cell? Explain.
A group of bacteria living in your hands got its membrane destroyed because you used soap when washing your hands. After a few minutes it died, why?
Answers
It is prokaryotic. Even though some eukaryotic cells have flagellum (spermatozoon), the nucleoid is only present in prokaryotes.
It is eukaryotic. Even though prokaryotes and eukaryotes have membrane, it is only eukaryotes who have mitochondria.
The membrane is responsible for protecting the cell, so, if there is no membrane, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Also, bacteria use their membrane for producing energy, therefore, without energy it dies.
