The Blue Stones is a Canadian rock duo consisting of Tarek Jafar as vocalist and guitarist with Justin Tessier as the drummer and background vocalist. Known for their debut album “Black Holes,” released in 2015, the band has also created several singles since, all capturing a blues-rock feeling. They recently did a live music video consisting of their four latest singles called Live on Display. All of it is done alongside their most recent single, “Let it Ride”. The performance is set in an antique shop in Ontario, Canada, all done during 2020’s COVID-19 pandemic. The setting is complete with lighting and effects, capturing each song’s feeling perfectly. The songs themselves are all great, unique and on par with their studio versions.
During their performance, Jafar and Tessier play the songs “Let it Ride,” “Grim,” “Careless” and, my personal favorite, “Shakin’ Off the Rust.” “Let it Ride,” their latest single, is all about living a life of adventure but still wanting the security of a home. “Grim” is a bit darker and more fast-paced. “Careless” on the other hand is a lot slower and is about getting lost in love and not worrying about the consequences. This song in particular is really different than the other three. The duo ends with “Shakin’ Off the Rust.” Jafar starts off on piano but switches to his guitar soon after. Overall, Live on Display shows the Blue Stones rock and blues influences but still remains unique throughout the whole performance. I rate Live on Display a nine out of 10.
