Eric Snyder, an alumnus of CASD, graduated from Kutztown University. For the first nine years in his career he taught special education classes at Phillipsburg High School in New Jersey. He began teaching at CHS during the 1992-93 school year and became the guidance counselor in 1997. He has been the head basketball coach since 1992 and became the assistant boys baseball coach in 2005.
Snyder seemed to love living in the community and being involved in the town. When asked about his favorite thing from working at Catty, Snyder said, “I loved working at CHS and living in town. I was always involved in the community and it was great to see the kids and parents and families not only in the school setting but also in and about and around the community. It is so different to see how they react in school as compared to outside of school.” According to Snyder, he has “deep roots in Catty” thanks to his family’s history in this town as well as his many years as a teacher, coach and parent in Catasauqua.
After retirement, Snyder looks forward to spending more time with his wife, longtime Sheckler Elementary School teacher Tina Snyder, who is also planning on retiring this year. He plans on staying involved in the sports programs at Catasauqua and has thought about working part-time at St. Luke's Hospital, subbing at CHS as needed, and possibly volunteering at various organizations around town.
Snyder encourages students at Catty to get involved and he knows he leaves them in good hands.
“I would like to encourage ‘Catty Kids’ to please get involved more in the sports and other extracurricular activities,” said Snyder. “A great group of younger people now, as compared to when I started here and I was one of the younger ones, is following in the footsteps of the outstanding teachers that have retired before in helping to educate and mentor our kids.”
