Dawn Fisher, the gifted teacher for CASD, has been with the district for 17.5 years. Fisher started in 1989 as a building sub but moved to teach at Northwestern Lehigh when there was no permanent position available at Catasauqua. In 2004, she and her family moved back to Catasauqua to be closer to loved ones, which is when she started her career with CASD.
Fisher says, “I loved working in all three buildings and working with the same students year-after-year. I really got to know them and their families. The small school feel means I got to know a lot of students and families beyond my caseload, as well. I have been blessed to work for and with some wonderful people.”
After retirement, Fisher plans to take after her father and take a course in carpentry. She is also looking to sub, travel and continue her work on the community's Diversity Task Force.
Fisher feels that it's time to pursue something else while still staying true to herself. She leaves with wisdom for her students.
“Be kind,” said Fisher. “I learned the value of being cheerful and doing a good-turn daily. Everything you give to others comes back ten-fold. To be sure, life isn't always easy. There is a yin and a yang. That's for a good reason. Push through. Everything is temporary. The best is yet to come.”
