Week 19 - Energy (Part 4)

Introduction to Energy

Learning Target: I can identify and investigate Newton's laws of motion

Warm-up 1/10/2020

  • The tendency of an object that is at rest to stay at rest and of an object that is motion to stay in motion is called _________________.
  • Objects that have a large mass will have more _________________ than objects with less mass.
  • If I shoot a ping pong ball out of my pop gun and then try to shoot a golf ball with the same amount of force, the golf ball will have less ___________________ because it has greater _________________ than the ping pong ball.

Word Wall

Kinetic Energy - The energy of motion

Potential Energy - Stored energy. The energy held by an object because of its position relative to other objects.

Mass - The quantity of matter within a body

Speed - The distance traveled per unit of time

Velocity - speed plus direction

Work - using a force to move an object

Motion - a change in position

Energy - the ability to do work.

Law of conservation of energy - states that energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be changed from one form of energy to another.

Acceleration - rate of change of speed or a change in direction

Force - a push or a pull on an object

Inertia - the tendency of an object to continue at rest or to remain in motion based on its mass
