Week 19 - Energy (Part 3)

Introduction to Energy

Learning Target: I can identify and investigate Newton's laws of motion

Warm-up 9/15/2020

  • A push or a pull on an object is known as a ________________.

  • An object that is at rest will tend to stay at rest unless acted on by some _____________________.

  • If I am pushing against the wall with 5 newtons of force, with how much force is the wall pushing back at me?

Word Wall

Kinetic Energy - The energy of motion

Potential Energy - Stored energy. The energy held by an object because of its position relative to other objects.

Mass - The quantity of matter within a body

Speed - The distance traveled per unit of time

Velocity - speed plus direction

Work - using a force to move an object

Motion - a change in position

Energy - the ability to do work.

Law of conservation of energy - states that energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be changed from one form of energy to another.

Acceleration - rate of change of speed or a change in direction

Force - a push or a pull on an object
