Week 16 - Energy (Part 5)

Introduction to Energy

Learning Target: I can explore relationships and patterns in speed velocity and acceleration of objects.

Warm-Up (12/4/20)

1) What three ingredients do I need to make velocity soup?

2) If I am spinning around in place like a top, I am accelerating because I am constantly changing my _______________.

3) If Santa Claus is in a hurry to get back to the north pole after delivering all the presents he will _____________________ his sleigh until it reaches top speed.

Word Wall

Kinetic Energy - The energy of motion

Potential Energy - Stored energy. The energy held by an object because of its position relative to other objects.

Mass - The quantity of matter within a body

Speed - The distance traveled per unit of time

Velocity - speed plus direction

Work - using a force to move an object

Motion - a change in position

Energy - the ability to do work.

Law of conservation of energy - states that energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be changed from one form of energy to another.

Acceleration - rate of change of speed or a change in direction
