Welcome to PE!

Parents and Students,

As a Physical Education teacher for over 35 years the one thing that I expect from all of my students is that they try to do their very best at whatever we do. One of my main goals in PE is for the students to have FUN! You can help your student and myself accomplish this goal by being sure they have sneakers to wear the days that they are scheduled to have PE class.

While the winter has been long, cold and snowy the elementary students have been involved in a wide variety of activities which have involved motor skills, manipulative skills, sportsmanship and just plan fun! For the month of February second and third graders had the opportunity to swim during PE class thanks to the C-M Rec staff and all the teachers for making this possible. There was a lot of improvement in the students skills throughout the unit. Next up is our Gymnastics and Nutrition units. Plus we are Walking Across NY using pedometers to visit various cities and sites in our great state.

Please help your student to remember the daily 5210:

5 fruits and vegetables

2 hours of screen time

1 hour of activity daily

0 sugary drinks

The New York State Learning Standards for Physical Education are shared with the disciplines of Health and Home Economics. Interdisciplinary activities within the three domains are encouraged and recommended. In Physical Education class students will be exposed and engage in activities that help students meet the standards while having fun!

Standard 1-Personal Health and Fitness

Students will have the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain physical fitness, participation in physical activity and maintain personal health.

Standard 2-A Safe and Healthy Environment

Students will acquire the knowledge and ability necessary to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment.

Standard 3-Resource Management

Students will understand and be able to manage their personal and community resources.

I will be continuing the "STAR" program in which the students work together to earn a sticker at the end of each class for working hard, following the rules and trying their best. At the end of the year the class that earns the most stars will earn a part of some type.

My goal for the year-to provide students with activities which help them become physically active and healthy citizens. For students to learn and have fun participating in a wide variety of activities.

I look forward to meeting the students and parents throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at any time.
