In partnership with Appalachian State University and STEM West, ARC’s Appalachian Entrepreneurship Academy (AEA) prepares the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders and thinkers.
Chosen via a competitive application process, 26 high school students from across the Appalachian Region participate in experiential learning designed to develop essential entrepreneurial skills. Students develop and implement their own business ideas, refine those ideas and deliver pitches to a panel of entrepreneurs.
From July 11-24, 2025, AEA participants will, at no cost, reside on Appalachian State University’s campus and immerse themselves in the surrounding town of Boone, North Carolina. (Students will also receive a $250 stipend for attending!)
This unique location provides students with opportunities to celebrate local culture and diversity, and develop ideas to maintain and sustain these critical aspects of Appalachian communities. In addition to the work of developing their businesses, students will engage in recreational activities throughout the experience, including activities on-campus and in the region.

Established in 1990, the Appalachian STEM Academy at Oak Ridge is a residential, hands-on learning experience for Appalachia’s middle and high school students, as well as high school teachers in STEM-related fields. Hosted by Oak Ridge Associated Universities in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, this program is a gateway to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in the Appalachian Region. Many participants come from economically distressed counties and often gain their first exposure to applied science and STEM education through this experience.
All participants work with award-winning scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, one of the largest U.S. Department of Energy research facilities in the United States. High school and middle school students conduct guided group science, math, and computer science technology research projects, while high school teachers work with science practitioners to develop STEM-related curriculum.

Applied STEM foundation is a 3-week experiential program that covers, computing, digital media, engineering, and other STEM concepts. The program is for high school students interested in a STEM major. Each week students will be given the opportunity to explore areas and careers in STEM through the use of classroom lectures, hands-on experiences various, field trips, and speaker presentations.
Applied STEM Foundations aims to deepen the understanding of STEM by utilizing practical applications and classroom presentations to increase awareness and participation within the field. The program aims to help students explore issues common to STEM with a focus on project-based time management, logic and condition statements, terminology used in STEM, engineering concepts, digital design and development, and career exploration. The program places emphasis on exposure to technological concepts, idea development, and skills that support success within a STEM major using an experiential model.

ASPIRE (ACT Supplemental Preparation In Rural Education) is an initiative designed to bridge deficits in rural high school students' performance on the ACT College Entrance Examination in order to increase the number of students gaining admissions to institutions offering degrees in agricultural fields. The ASPIRE program also aims to increase admissions rates of students from rural, economically distressed counties into institutions of higher education. ASPIRE includes 30 hours of ACT course instruction, along with helpful ACT prep materials and access to four (4) full-length practice ACT exams.

The Black College Institute is an academic summer enrichment program by Virginia Tech. It hosts talented, high-achieving and academically curious rising high school juniors and seniors. Campapalooza is a 4 day academic summer camp for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Afternoons include free time which can be spent exploring campus, attending a campus tour, or meeting a representative from Admissions or Clemson University Honors College. Evenings feature many of the recreational activities Clemson students enjoy, including bowling at The Underground, swimming at Fike Recreation Center, and a cookout on the beach at beautiful Lake Hartwell.

Conservation Corps North Carolina (CCNC) is hosting a weekend program filled with conservation work and camping! This opportunity is open to youth ages 15-18 and will be working with Foothills Conservancy September 24-25th. This is a Duke Energy Foundation sponsored program to introduce teens to parks and how they can help steward them.
Youth will volunteer Saturday through Sunday and camp at Lake James Saturday night. CCNC will provide all camping gear and food needed for the overnight experience. Any students interested can apply HERE.

The Cornerstone Summer Institute provides rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with the opportunity to engage in historical investigation, archaeological excavation, and community engagement in order to learn and develop thinking skills that will prepare them for success in college and beyond.
Designed by members of the University of Virginia President’s Commission on Slavery and the University, the institute encourages critical thinking while students learn about both the University’s past and the modern-day legacies of slavery. Students explore the early history of the University by getting hands-on experience with archival records, by rolling up their sleeves on an archaeological dig where enslaved people lived and worked, and by learning–through community engagement–how the U.Va. story had an impact on the surrounding area.

This CSI Camp is designed to give students hands-on experience of what they can expect in the forensic science and criminal justice majors and, ultimately, occupations. This on-campus residential learning workshop is open to students from diverse socio-economic, racial and ethnic backgrounds. And, again, it’s completely free. Future Doctors Program seeks to introduce students to the fundamentals of pre-medical studies. The program covers various topics including content modules on genetic inheritance, hormones, immunology, and organic chemistry. It also explores case studies on various diseases, poses medical ethics questions, and offers an opportunity to dissect scientific papers. The program aims to prepare students for a career in medicine by providing an overview of the MCAT process, as well as the chance to hear first-hand about the process from Harvard students.
Providing an extensive overview of pre-med, the program encourages students to think critically and quickly. Each day begins with an in-depth lecture covering an important aspect of the medical field ranging from genetics to organic chemistry. Students then engage in hands-on activities created to orient them to the realities of working in medicine. The unique pre-professional program, spread over 9 days (2 weekends), focuses on helping students learn how to read and build a case, how to write position papers, how to navigate the path to law school, and much more. Students will also be guided towards the LSAT, the difficult-to-navigate requirements of the application to Law School, and the many careers in the world of law.
Each day begins with a lecture outlining a skill or concept critical to a career in law, whether it be the inner workings of the court system or how to prepare for the LSAT. From there, students get to build teamwork skills and collaborative thinking by engaging with one another. Guided by qualified Harvard undergraduate instructors, the curriculum aims to provide a comprehensive look at legal systems and give students the chance to meaningfully explore the field. The program enables students to explore law and litigation, experience a mock trial, gain awareness of history and the current events that contextualize law in society today, and walk away with excitement for their future in law.

The Governor's School of North Carolina is a multi-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and it does not involve credit, tests, or grades. The LEDA application is open! LEDA is looking for highly motivated high school juniors with strong academic records and a desire to develop their leadership abilities to join the 20th Cohort of LEDA Scholars.
LEDA brings together a community of student leaders for a completely free five-week residential program at Princeton University that includes academic preparation for college, leadership training, college guidance support based on individual fit, SAT/ACT preparation, and a chance to experience life on a college campus.

CLCT has developed a series of introductory law classes for high school and university students. This program gives students the opportunity to experience classes in the comfort of their homes using an interactive video conferencing platform. Classes last from 4 to a maximum of 14 hours and are designed for students who are keen to explore what studying law entails, and for those who have a passion for government studies.

The University of North Georgia's (UNG) Corps of Cadets will host National Leadership Challenge (NLC) Weekend on October 31 - November 2, 2025 for JROTC cadets and other high school students who are considering a military program in college.
Your students will rappel down a sheer rock cliff at the Army's Mountain Ranger Camp in Dahlonega, construct a rope bridge across a mountain stream, negotiate obstacle and leadership reaction course elements, observe demonstrations by UNG cadet organizations, and meet some of our cadets. They will be assigned to small teams, and current UNG cadets mentor and guide them through the weekend's events.
Participants sleep in rustic, 16-person cabins on bunk beds at Camp Wahsega, a 4-H Camp owned by the University System of Georgia, approximately one mile from the Mountain Ranger Camp, and ten miles from our Dahlonega campus. Men and women will occupy separate cabins.
NLC Weekend is offered twice per year (fall and spring), and space is limited to 200 students per semester.
The National Student Leadership Conference provides an immersive pre-college experience that prepares students for life beyond middle and high school, allowing them to study in university classrooms, learn to navigate a campus, and experience living with roommates. Students are able to explore a career concentration they are interested in before going into college and declaring a major. Each NSLC program also contains a leadership curriculum designed to teach skills that can apply to all areas of life.
Each NSLC program is designed to fully immerse a student in their chosen field. While at the NSLC students will test drive a future career, develop critical leadership skills, meet leading experts, and experience life on a college campus.
If you are interested in this program please contact Mrs. Smith by December 12th in the counseling office to be nominated. In order to be nominated you must have a minimum of a “B” average and demonstrate leadership potential. The NSLC accepts nominations for current 6th-12th grade students.

The Governor’s Page Program offers students an in-depth view of state government. During an in-person week, Pages will be assigned to assist staff in the Governor’s Office. Pages will tour multiple government buildings and historic sites during their stay including the Legislative Building, the State Capitol, the Executive Mansion, and the North Carolina Museum of History. Accelerator for 7th-9th graders is offered online and in-person at NCSSM in Durham, NC and Morganton, NC. When you apply, you have the opportunity to choose your first and second choice courses. You will have the chance to choose one course for each week should you wish to apply for more than one course over the summer.
Accelerator courses for 10th - 12th graders are conducted over three weeks. The first two weeks of each course take place virtually, at the student's own pace. The third week of each course takes place on campus (either in Durham or Morganton, NC) or online.

The Youth Legislative Assembly is a mock legislative session where high school students voice their opinions and vote on issues concerning local, state, and national government. This conference provides students with a deeper understanding of the legislative process while also developing their confidence, public speaking, and debate skills.

Project Uplift is a Summer Enrichment and College Access Program designed to promote and increase access to higher education. Every summer, approximately 1,000 rising high school seniors participate in one of multiple Project Uplift Sessions. Participants learn about the college admissions process, interact with faculty, staff, and current students, and participate in educational and social activities. For over 50 years, Project Uplift has consistently provided a selection of rising high school seniors from across the United States with an opportunity to live, lead, and learn about The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a first-hand basis.
Project Uplift will be held in-person for summer 2026. Join us at UNC-Chapel Hill for a day full of exploration of our campus, advice for applying to college, and opportunities to get to know other talented rising high school seniors and current UNC students. Uplift PLUS is an intensive 2-week summer academic enrichment and college readiness program for Project Uplift participants. This program is only for NC residents. During the program, participants live on campus, take an essay writing course, and interact with campus partners and offices. Participants also engage in college application preparation, leadership development, and experiential learning opportunities. Students must attend Project Uplift to participate in Uplift PLUS as there is no separate application for Uplift PLUS. Students must indicate on their Project Uplift application if they would like to be considered for Uplift PLUS.
The dates for Uplift PLUS 2026 are Saturday, June 27 through Saturday, July 11.

Rhode Island School of Design is excited to announce Pre-College Online, a new virtual intensive for high school students launching summer 2026. Find inspiration and a sense of direction while building a sustainable arts practice and your own creative community from anywhere in the world.
Pre-College Online offers collegiate-level courses for students in grades 10 to 12 (or equivalent). You’ll join students from around the world in live online studio classes and critiques led by accomplished professional artists. Coursework provides a strong drawing and design foundation modeled after the RISD first-year curriculum, as well as a focused introduction to a concentration of your choice.

This residential program, hosted at the HD Shanghai School, connects high school students with RISD's renowned approach to art and design. Students have the opportunity to develop their skills, goals and artistic voice while defining strategies for portfolio development and the next steps in their visual arts education.

Samford's McWhorter School of Pharmacy invites current high school sophomores, juniors and seniors to apply for its Bulldog Pharmacy Camp this summer to explore careers in pharmacy. 2025 camp dates are June 22 - June 27, 2025.
SATELLITE is a five-day STEM outreach and leadership development program with the goal of exposing high school sophomores from under-resourced communities in North Carolina to post-secondary educational opportunities in STEM and its many disciplines. SATELLITE Campers have had the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities including a field trip to the Museum of Natural Sciences, an egg drop competition, plant biology seminars, workshops in paper science engineering, textiles and design, game theory, and hands-on life sciences demonstrations led by genuine NC State faculty and students. SATELLITE’s mission is fueled by our desire and passion to help close the higher educational divide among communities through equitable opportunities and exposure.
The 2024 program will run from May 18th - 22nd. The application encourages two letters of recommendation ( however are not required ) and a few short essays pertaining to the student’s interest in the field of STEM and college exposure. Due to the nature of the program, they do not consider a student’s academic success when reviewing applications, they are looking only for a student’s desire to maximize their experience at SATELLITE and hone their curiosity. The deadline to apply is March 8th, 2024. If accepted, there will be a $25 registration fee, but a number of need-based scholarships and financial assistance opportunities are available upon request.

The Shelton Challenge is a six-day residential leadership experience to help students expand their knowledge and skills of what it takes to be an effective leader. Offered to rising 9th-grade to graduating seniors (graduating seniors included) with a 3.0+ unweighted GPA, hands-on activities focus on: personal leadership assessment and interpersonal dynamics, the role of values and ethics in leadership, leadership traits and approaches, empowering others, civic and social responsibility and goal setting.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in team-building activities, low and high ropes courses, service projects, and fun night activities to help students get to know others participating in the program.
The cost to attend the Shelton Challenge six-day residential program is $500. This cost includes all curriculum materials, lodging and food, low and high ropes training, transportation during the week, and night activities. With submitting the application, please mail a $100 deposit to hold space in the program. The deposit will go toward the final payment of $500. Please make all checks or money orders payable to the Shelton Challenge at N.C. Wesleyan University. Financial aid scholarships are available to applicants.
NC Wesleyan University will offer a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to students who complete the Shelton Challenge and enroll as a full-time undergraduate student at North Carolina Wesleyan University. The scholarship is renewable for each academic year (fall/spring) if the student maintains an overall GPA of at least a 2.70 (and is enrolled as a full-time student) for a maximum of four academic years.

The Wilson College of Textiles Summer Textile Exploration Program (STEP) consists of five one-week sessions for rising high school seniors interested in learning about the textile industry, fashion, engineering, polymer science and business marketing. Up to 35 students per week are chosen based on their academic success, interest in NC State Wilson College of Textiles, and extracurricular activities.
Students participate in sessions learning about the five degree programs offered in the Wilson College of Textiles, applying to NC State University, Centennial Scholarships, future internship and job opportunities, and learning about the industry from partners and alumni. Each student has the opportunity to choose their top project interest and will spend parts of the morning afternoon working on project pertaining to one of the following that has been completed in the past.

Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics is a no-cost, state-funded program for academically talented North Carolina students who aspire to careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. If hands-on, independent learning is appealing to you, and you are excited about the idea of conducting research to answer questions that intrigue you, this is the program for you!
In Summer Ventures, you will live on a college campus for four weeks in the summer and conduct research around topics of your interest — while enjoying the company of like-minded peers. You will have the opportunity to engage in research with faculty and get hands-on experience at a university.

SummerFAB, a four-week, nonresidential summer program, in its fourth year, exposes high school youth to the built environment through interdisciplinary, project-based learning practices, a cornerstone to a Wentworth education. Participants collaborate with Wentworth faculty and current architecture students to research, design, fabricate, and construct a full-scale, community-driven solution to local neighborhood challenges. The Summer Writing Institute at Rhodes College takes place annually for two weeks during June and is a residential academic program committed to developing the critical thinking and writing skills of high school students. Within the college′s liberal arts environment, students sharpen their reading and analytical skills and learn strategies for writing creatively and critically. At the end of the session, students receive a grade for their work and class participation, earn two college credits (transferable to most colleges and universities), and will complete a portfolio of college-level writing.

Technovation for Good, made possible by Alex Lee, Inc. is a day and residential program for rising high school sophomores – seniors. The program will be administered by the Information Systems and Supply Chain Management department in the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. It will provide the participants with hands-on, practical experience with Programming, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Mobile Application Development, Sustainability, Analytics and/or the Internet of Things. In addition, this program offers students an opportunity to learn entrepreneurial and leadership skill sets, hear from local professionals, meet other students with similar career interests, and attend workshops to enhance IT and business skills in a college setting.
The goal of this program is to provide an environment that promotes inclusiveness and educational equity. In this pre-college, immersive summer program, the University of Austin brings its undergraduate curriculum to high school students. Small seminar courses challenge students with college-level coursework while evening social activities are designed to help students become familiar with college life.
Eligibility: Participants must be at least 15 years old. The program is designed for rising high school juniors and seniors.
Cost: The program is tuition-free. Participants will receive complimentary meals daily. Participants are responsible for their travel and lodging expenses as applicable, and the costs of assigned reading materials/books.

FEMALE ASPIRING BUSINESS SCHOLARS (FABS) SUMMER PROGRAM
FABS is a four-day, overnight camp offered by UD’s School of Business Administration that provides young women hands-on learning through team projects, leadership experience, career exploration and mentorship. Campers will build skills essential for success in college and business, connect with peers, and experience life as a UD student.

VetCAMP (Veterinary Career Aptitude and Mentoring Program) is a week-long, on-campus summer program for high school students. At VetCAMP, students experience veterinary medicine – and will be involved in activities aimed at evaluating their skills and competitiveness as future veterinarians. The week is filled with visits and hand-on learning at our veterinary teaching hospital, diagnostic labs, and the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center — and highlighted by a behind-the-scenes tour of the Georgia Aquarium. At the Sports Announcing & Sports Journalism Camp, students will learn the basics of play-by-play, reporting, interviewing, and more while exploring a potential career in sports announcing or sports journalism. At the Mock Crime Scene Workshop, students will have the opportunity to learn from crime scene professionals and field experts how to investigate a crime scene, properly collect and document evidence, and interview witnesses. No experience is needed to attend this event, and it is open to current high school sophomores, juniors, or seniors. The day is of no cost to students, and lunch will be provided. This workshop will be help in March 16th.

SLE is a one-week program for current Juniors (High School Class of 2025) to visit West Point in June.
Students in this program get to spend the week with our cadets, live in the barracks, and eat in the mess hall.

All the students that I have spoken with have really enjoyed this program and they especially enjoy interacting with the cadets. YSPA is a 2-week online + 4-week residential research and enrichment program for 32 rising high school seniors who are interested in astronomy, physics, math, computer programming, and other science and tech fields.
YSPA has a small student-to-faculty ratio (32:5), so students get to know each other and the faculty very well. It’s a summer experience like no other.

Campers at the UNCG Young Writers’ Camp create 21st century texts using digital tools such as storyboarding, blogging, and movie-making during this two week camp experience. In daily writing workshops, campers work with UNCG faculty, graduate students, NC teachers, and local authors. The camp introduces young writers to the writing process, unlocks strategies of professional writers, and supports development of variety of writing styles. All work is published on the UNC Greensboro website.
