We hope everyone had great fun!
MICHELANGELO INSPIRED ART
After hearing that Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling over 4 years and largely on his back, we were inspired to do our own artwork this way.
Thankfully ours only took 40 minutes and some of us had cushions under our heads!
BIA
The Gaeilge topic of the month was 'bia'.
For art, we looked at the work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo. He drew portraits of people using food items. Have a look at our art inspired by him!
BASKETBALL
REV FOR TREV
'Rev for Trev' is an annual tractor run to raise awareness around mental health. The money raised is donated to the chosen charity. This year 'Teac Tom' and 'Jigsaw' were chosen.
We talked about how we would ask for help if we hurt our leg or our hand, so the same should apply if our mind feels sad. We made a list of things we could do to help if our mind was sad including talking to a family member, going for a walk and playing with your pet.
OUR PLANTS
This was the day we sowed the seeds.
This was 4 weeks later, great progress!
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
Congratulations to the five 2nd class children who made their First Holy Communion on Saturday 24th May 2025. Well done everyone!
SCIENCE
The children learned the difference between something that is opaque, transparent and translucent. They chose some items from the classroom and checked to see which one they are! Have a look!
EASTER FUN
Our Gaeilge topic of the month was 'An Cháisc', check out our display of the vocab we focused on!
For art, the children made Easter baskets using paper plates and painted funky Easter bunnies!
We had an Easter egg hunt in the classroom where the children exchanged a small glitter egg for a homemade mini-egg chocolate nest. It was a great success!
RECOUNT WRITING
We have been focusing on recount writing this month. The children brainstormed, drafted, edited and published their own recount about how they spent St. Patrick's Day. Check them out!
LÁ GLAS
In addition to creating lovely Lá Fhéile Pádraig art, the children performed in our whole school Lá Glas ceolchoirm! They said the poem 'Bogha Báistí', danced 'An Dreoilín' and sang 'Ireland's Call'. It was a super performance by all!
BAR CHARTS
For maths this week, we focused on data. The children devised questions and multiple answers to survey their friends. Once they gathered their data, they created bar charts to show the various answers.
WORLD BOOK DAY
The children worked in groups to complete each station. We had 6 stations in total, each focusing on a different aspect of literacy and reading skills. Once all of the stations were completed, the children coloured their bookmarks which turned out amazing!
PANCAKE TUESDAY
Thank you to Mrs Dunne and Alison for buying the pancakes and toppings. They were delicious!
The children read a pancake recipe during our Gaeilge lesson and acted it out afterwards!
The children drew their own pancakes after learning about the history of Shrove Tuesday!
THE HISTORY OF CASTLECUFFE CASTLE
Each child researched the history of Castlecuffe Castle and created a project highlighting what they found interesting. Some children created super replicas of the castle. They should all be so proud of this gorgeous display!
BÍ CINÉALTA
Our SPHE lessons have been focusing on 'Bí Cinéalta', the new procedures to prevent and address bullying behaviour in primary schools.
Each child was asked for their input into our school's Anti-Bullying policy through the medium of a poster. Have a look at the super work!
TEILIFÍS
Our Gaeilge theme for the last 2 weeks was 'Teilifís' so the children created television scenes for our art lesson. Check them out!
VALENTINE'S DAY ART AND POEMS
SAFER INTERNET DAY
We celebrated Safer Internet Day on Tuesday 11th February 2025. We discussed the pros and cons of using the internet. We examined the WebWise Internet Heroes powerpoint where we learned about the rules of online safety. The children consolidated their learning by creating posters and they were rewarded with wristbands for their super effort!
SESE: CLIMATE CHANGE
For the month of January, we discussed how we can reduce our carbon footprint on the earth.
The children created posters to encourage others to do the same!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

OUR CHRISTMAS TREE & ADVENT ART!
The countdown to Christmas is on. We started our Advent calendar when there was 15 school days left to the Christmas holidays!
The children wrote a procedural writing piece on how to create a cereal box present to go under the tree. They followed their own instructions and created beautiful presents for our classroom tree!
THE START OF OUR CHRISTMAS ART!
SESE - AUSTRALIA
ART
The children created amazing silhouette paintings with a focus on their Australian city of choice.
You can see the Sydney Harbour Bridge, kangaroos, surfers, palm trees, mountains, city buildings among other gorgeous designs!
PROJECTS
The children created projects based on various cities in Australia. They completed their own research using the school iPads and focused on what they thought was interesting about the city.
SUMMARY
For the month of November, we are learning about Australia.
In Geography, we discussed the main cities in each state. We also looked at pictures of the most famous Australian landmarks.
In Art, we made Australian boomerangs out of clay. Some children were wondering if they could throw them to see if they return!!
In PE, we are learning the steps to an Australian bush dance.
SCIENCE WEEK
11TH-15TH NOVEMBER 2024
Each day this week, we did a different science experiment. Flick through the image carousel to see what we got up to!
The children really enjoyed this week. Minimal resources are needed for each experiment so you can try them out at home too!
FRIENDSHIP WEEK
11TH - 15TH NOVEMBER 2024
Each child coloured at least one page to create our collaborative art display.
We discussed how to be a good friend and then the children wrote what they felt was important into their copies.
Each child entered the poster competition. Stay tuned to see the winner's poster!
HALLOWEEN FUN
Halloween Dress Up Day summary
Each pod decided on the face for their pumpkin. They took turns scooping the pulp out, plenty of funny faces during this!!
Each child did some mindful skull colouring, cut it out and glued it onto coloured card.
Each child stuck their hand into the ‘intestines’ to find a spider! The ‘intestines’ consisted of spaghetti, green jelly, yellow jelly and pumpkin pulp.
We played ‘Pin the face on the pumpkin’. The children loved watching their friends try to put the face together, plenty of giggles when it went wrong!!
To conclude the day, each pod watched their pumpkin ‘get sick’. This was done using bicarbonate of soda, washing up liquid, food colouring and vinegar. The messier, the better!!
HALLOWEEN ART
SCRÍBHNEOIREACHT ÁITITHEACH - PERSUASIVE WRITING
We focused on persuasive writing in our English lessons for the month of October. For Gaeilge, we focused on 'An Aimsir'. PROCEDURAL WRITING
For the month of September, we focused on Procedural Writing. We examined various procedural writing texts and then drafted our own. The children picked their own topic, wrote a procedural text and published their work. Have a look!
Can you think of a maths question using this information?
Slide through some ideas by 4th class here --->
We discussed how trees change during each season.
Next, we learned about the various parts of a tree and what they do.
After that, we learned about our lungs and what they do. We discussed the importance of trees and how they supply us with oxygen. We read about how oxygen changes to carbon dioxide in the lungs and then we breathe it out!
To finish off the topic, we finger painted trees to replicate each season. They turned out great!
WELCOME BACK!
Morning Meetings
Every morning, the children sit on our rug and we go through each section of our morning meeting slide. We begin by greeting each other using the phrase and the action of the day. Next, we read and discuss our weekly quote. After this, we answer the 'would you rather?' question and finally, everyone gives an answer for the 'sharing' question. This is a nice way to start our mornings and the children seem to be really enjoying it!
Check out our displays from our first week back!
OUR WOW WALL
Our hot air balloons were inspired by the book 'The World Needs Who You Were Made To Be' by Joanna Gaines which we read on the first day back!
