Liceo "G.D. Cassini"

some history

Our school was born as a branch of the Massena High School of Nice. When in 1860 Nice was annexed to France, our school took the name of G.D. Cassini and it was the italian school nearest the boundary with France. On the 21th april of 1865, the Official Gazzetta of the Kingdom of Italy decided to definitely call the High School of Sanremo “Cassini”, in honour of the famous ligurian astronomer and mathematician. Since then, Cassini High School has become one of the most important schools in Sanremo.

Liceo Cassini is the oldest institute of superior studies of the province and one of the few centenary high schools in Italy.

In 1961 a section of the scientific high school was created and became independent in 1973. In 1990 the G.D. High school decided to set a section dedicated to the European languages: English, French,German,Spanish And Russian. At that time the high school was divided into 2 institutions (humanities, science) and both were indipendent until 2000.

In 2001, they joined, giving birth to the present “G.D. Cassini” high school with its 3 branches: humanities, science and modern languages.
