At the beginning of August, our Dual-credit program was spotlighted by the College of Western Idaho. We are thankful for this partnership, the opportunities that it provides to our students and the additional support that our district received last year from CWI.
These last two months students have been introduced to so many concepts!
Seventh graders have learned about lab safety procedures, how to use a microscope and how to prepare samples, the main lab materials that they will use this school year, and how living things are classified.Â
Eighth graders have learned about the phases of the Moon, eclipses, the seasons of the year, the Solar System and all of its components, how the Solar System was formed, and why we use models to research the Universe.
Ninth graders have learned about the metric system and the units of measurement that are often used in science, how to convert units, and how to collect and interpret data.
Tenth graders have learned about what life needs to exist, how to plan a long-term experiment to grow an organism using samples such as bread, cheese, or dirt, the importance of macromolecules (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids), and why enzymes are essential for living things.
Eleventh graders have learned about the units of measurement that are often used in chemistry, the properties and classification of matter, the importance of precision and accuracy when working in science, and the basic concepts related to the atom.
