On Friday, Oct. 29, the upperclassmen of Carver Middle High School (CMHS) will journey to Salem, yet another annual tradition making its return in a post-pandemic world.
Students will meet at 7:30 a.m. in the high school cafeteria and then travel to Salem, Mass. During the evening, students will visit Salem, N.H. and will return home at midnight.
In Salem, Mass., students will visit the historic district and the Salem Witch Museum. In Salem, N.H., students will visit the Mall at Rockingham Park and attend Screeemfest, a horror-inspired celebration at Canobie Lake Park.
While this is usually a junior class exclusive event, seniors are also invited to attend this year.
“The unique feature about [the trip] this year is that it is not only open to the junior class, but also to the graduating seniors. That’s a one-time-only occurrence due to the fact that we were not able to offer the trip to the juniors last year,” said Roger Tait, Junior Class Advisor.
This Salem trip is available to all members in good standing of the junior and senior classes. The $75 price tag will cover the cost of the bus ride and admission to the Salem Witch Museum and Canobie Lake Park.
“I really look forward to going to Salem,” said Miah Wainio, CMHS Junior.
Additionally, Amber Smith, Emma Tetrault, and Ryan Vincent, Juniors at CMHS, have all expressed their excitement for the trip, specifically citing Canobie Lake Park as their most highly anticipated event.
While many students are eager to visit Salem, a scheduling conflict prevents some from attending.
“I’m currently restricted from attending because of the senior night football game,” said George Beliveau, junior at CMHS and varsity football player.
Varsity football players, cheerleaders, and members of the pep band cannot attend the Salem trip because of the football game against Sandwich on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. This game is also the senior night game, where senior football players, cheerleaders, and members of the pep band are typically celebrated. Anyone in these groups will not be able to go to Salem. Any junior or senior fan who wants to watch the game will have to choose to attend one or the other.
“I was planning on going to Salem because the seniors missed out last year because of COVID. However, since it is scheduled for the same day as the senior night football game, I’m not sure if I can attend now,” said Jay Peters, Senior at CMHS and member of the pep band.
Still, those who are definitely attending have a lot to look forward to.
“It’s just a really exciting, vibrant time to be there. It’s a fun trip. I would think it ranks among the most memorable trips that our students have told us about during their entire time here at Carver High,” said Tait.
Whether it be the excitement of Halloween, the thrill of a theme park, or the culture of an historic town, there is something for everyone on the CMHS Salem trip.
Permission slips and payments are due Friday, Oct. 15 to either Mr. Tait or Mrs. Showan, the junior class advisors.
