From Chaos To Charity

Mr. Fracalossi turns disaster into a school-wide fundraiser.
The Powder puff game is an event run by Captains Council in which girls grade 9-12 play in flag football games with all proceeds from ticket sales going to great causes like toy drives for the homeless and the “Be an 11” program, which encourages athletics to the youth at Carver Middle High School
Powder puff wasn't a school event in the past. Students organized it on their own with no referees or adult supervision. Which is why the game got out of hand when the school was opened in the late 80s.
“The game was played at Purchase Street field and was very violent. The police had to get involved,” said Michael Fraccolosi, Physical education teacher and coach at Carver Middle High School who now runs the powder puff game.
To keep the game safe Mr. Frccolosi added referees, made the game flag football instead of tackle football and created a safe yet still competitive environment for everyone to enjoy.
“It's one of those things that brings the school together as a whole,” said Senior Abby Johnson who will be participating in this year's game.
Due to Covid the game couldn't be played last year but everyone is excited to compete this year. “I'm very happy the game is back,”said senior Gabby Teabaggy who will also be participating in this year's game.
This year Powder puff will be played on November 23 on the turf at CMHS. Teams are still in the works of being organized. Mr. Fraccolossi encourages all girls to play because it is a great experience.
