Parking Fee Covers Costs
By: Isley Costa
Carver- Carver Middle High School students must pay to drive themselves to school.
Juniors and seniors who drive pay $50 to park in the parking lot at the school. Staff of the school states if students do not pay said fee “privileges will be revoked and will no longer be allowed to receive parking.”
Micheal Martin, Assistant Principal of Carver Middle High said when he was working at Monomoy High students did not have to pay there. Martin stated in an interview that “Students are required to pay because it goes to help the upkeep of the parking lots.”
The money also goes back to high school student activities and trips. The money goes back to all high school students, not just the juniors and seniors who paid.
High schools in the surrounding areas are charging even more. Plymouth North & South charge $100 for the year, Middleboro $75, and other surrounding school districts triple the price.
In the long run, students are just paying for their own activities. It's nothing new they haven't been doing since they were enrolled.
Student Parking Passes

Students who choose to drive to school must pay a parking fee of $50.
Carver Middle High requires students to pay $50 to park at the school during school hours.
This payment is due at the beginning of the school year along with many other expenses. Although you choose to participate in activities the school offers, lots of students love being able to experience sports, school dances and school field trips and these expenses can add up quickly and get pricey. Especially for seniors who want to attend their last few school trips/activities before they graduate.
Mike Martin, assistant principal at Carver High School says the fee for student parking goes towards the upkeep of the parking lot and student activities. Martin used to work at Monomoy Highschool and students did not have to pay for parking. Surrounding schools like Plymouth North and South charge $100 for the year and Middleborough charges $75. Silver Lake's website states that "All licensed grade 11 and grade 12 students who drive to school must register to park. Once this form is completed, students will be provided a parking sticker by office staff after the start of school" it does not say that there is a fee.
Carver High School's fee for student parking goes towards the upkeep of the parking lot and student activities. Which means it ends up paying for a part your school activities.
