After a year-long hiatus, homecoming will return to Carver, but unlike ever before.
Carver Middle High School’s (CMHS) homecoming dance will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. outside on the high school turf.
Tickets will cost $20 and be sold the week of Oct. 11. The ticket revenue will cover the DJ, the decorations, and the police detail.
The dance is planned by the senior class and advisors.
“It’s a fundraiser for the senior class, too,” said Senior Class Advisor Liza Bertram.
On Tuesday, Sept. 21, Carver’s homecoming dance was still scheduled to take place inside the high school gym. On Wednesday, Sept. 22, it was announced that homecoming would be held outside.
“The decision to move the dance outdoors was a group decision after conversations with our advisors, administration and nurses,” said CMHS Principal Michael Schultz.
If the dance were held inside, there would be a cap on the people who could go and a mask mandate in place. Now that the dance is outdoors, students will not be required to wear masks.
“The change was made after having conversations with other school districts who also made the move and could provide feedback. We also reviewed the number of students planning on attending and the size of our space,” said Schultz.
Plymouth South had their homecoming dance outside for the first time on Sept. 18. Middleborough will have theirs outside on Oct. 16, with no guests from other schools allowed.
No guests will be allowed to attend the Carver homecoming dance.
Last year, when CMHS was in its hybrid model, homecoming was cancelled entirely.
“People haven’t been able to do anything for the past two years. I’m hoping that there’s a huge turnout because it’s going to be such a fun time to get together with friends,” said Bertram.
