The temporary change of letting one person in the bathroom at a time has now changed to allow two people at a time.
A viral tik tok trend has been going on at many schools. This is a trend where you vandalize and steal things from the school bathrooms. This trend has been going on at Carver Middle High School (CMHS) and needed to be put to a stop.
“It is not a new policy. It is not written in the handbook. This was only temporary until we got to the bottom of the vandalism. There are now two people allowed to be in the bathroom at the same time,” said CMHS Vice Principal Mike Martin.
If the vandalism continues it will be brought back down to one.
Mr. Martin claims this was the best decision because there was vandalism happening across the whole school. For example there was vandalism in the high school girls' bathroom, and there was vandalism in the middle school boys' bathroom.
Haley Giorgio, a student at CMHS said, “I don’t like having to wait”.
“It’s annoying. You miss class time waiting your turn,” Giorgio also mentioned.
Having a teacher stand outside the bathrooms and monitor who goes in and out allows staff to know who did it. If there was something to happen with multiple students in there at once there would just be a lot of finger pointing to who did it.
“There were a lot of ideas that we could’ve done but we couldn’t enforce them. We could’ve put cameras in the bathrooms or had teachers in the bathrooms, but that wouldn’t have been practical and it would’ve been uncomfortable,” said Martin.
After speaking with some students about the issue the responses were a little mixed when asking their opinion about the issue.
Martin is not sure when the bathrooms will be able to hold a normal capacity of people.
