Step 3: Creating your Blog

You may use whatever blogging platform you choose to create your blog, but I recommend you use either Wordpress and Blogger. Each of these has advantages and disadvantages:

Wordpress

  • Industry Standard blogging platform: The NYTimes is built on Wordpress. Learning this platform prepares you for future blogging opportunities.
  • Newer layout with more features and smoother interface.
  • Tutorial Videos available on Youtube.
  • Lots of themes to choose from.

Google Blogger

  • Integrated into your school Google Account. One login to remember.
  • Brewer has already created the tutorial videos specific to this assignment (see below)
  • Older layout with fewer options.
  • Lots of themes to choose from.

Whichever option you choose, you should take the time to be sure that your blog’s visual layout is clean and professional looking. This means:

  • No clutter
  • No distracting typefaces
  • No distracting images or background images
  • A clear navigation method

Once your blog is created, share the URL to the live published blog to this Google Form. Note: the URL for your blog is NOT the URL from the page that you go to for editing. It has a short form like the following:

Then, create a new post and begin writing!
