Ni neart go cur le chéile
On a blue sky morning in crisp November air our 5th Year LCVP students visited the Naval base at Haulbowline in the company of Mr. Murphy and Mr. McSorley. They boarded the LE William Bulter Yeats and were given the tour by Seamen Cian and Storm. Our students learnt about daily life aboard ship, challenges faced by our naval forces and the prospect of a fabulous career for anyone inclined to go to sea. The students witnessed new recruits on parade and saw the divers kitted out and ready to embark on a training mission. They enjoyed a wondeful talk given by a yet another member of the forces who spoke about the many different careers on offer at sea. This was a day out organised by the students for the students and it was well structured and hugely enjoyable. Well done.
As part of our ongoing intiative to encourage regular school attendance, some of our fourth year students created this piece of artwork to display at the back entrance to school. Thanks to Lilienne Pelc, Natalia Slusarczyk and Alida Balan and teacher Ms Stackpoole for their work on this.
We encourage all students to attend school as much as is possible and ask parents/guardians to avoid scheduling appointments during school time where possible.
A raffle was held recently for each year group with a prize of a €20 voucher. Students with over 90% attendance were included in the raffle.
Well done to Maebh O'Mahony and Victor Tejeda on receiving scholarships in Mary Immaculate College Limerick and University College Cork respectively. Maebh received an Entrance Scholarship and is studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary Education) and Victor received a Quercus Scholarship and is studying Physics and Astrophysics
Updates of all sporting activities in CCS
On Monday the 18th of November the school hosted a reception for two of Carrigaline's championship winning teams. Our 1st and 2nd Year students met the teams and listened to their words of encouragement and advice. The role of sport in the community was very evident. The message was one of perseverance and hard work on and off the pitch.
Eanna and Abbie remembered their years fondly in CCS and thanked the teachers who had given so generously of their time for training teams and for matches.
Eanna got a little carried away and went as far as to give "homework off" to the students!
Again well done on achieving such success at Senior A level.

Our U15 soccer team played Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh, Bishopstown in Crosshaven on Friday 15th of November
The team was 1-0 down at half-time but goals from Zinedine Louadah (x2) & Daniel O'Herlihy (x1) helped the team to achieve a 3-1 Win. Congratulations to all involved.
Every Monday at lunch time, a cohort of transition year students oversee a soccer tournament for the 1st Years. This extra-curricular activity has been taking place since the beginning of the school year to help the first year students to bond within their year group. Lots of friendships have been formed and students have got to know each other from across the whole year group. A Huge thank you to our hard working staff who give so generously of their time to make school a happier place for all of us.
Our 1st and 2nd Year girls are hard at work preparing for their upcoming basketball campaign, with another tough session Monday evening with coaches Ms Keohane, Ms O Donovan and Ms Looney. New students from 1st and 2nd Year are always welcome and this might be a lovely way to make sport part of your daughter's life. We have a long tradition with basketball in the school made possible by generations of teachers who continue to support our students during the day and into the evening. A sincere thanks to the teachers mentioned above.
Under difficult conditions and against powerful opposition CCS ground our a great win at under 19 level.
Final score: CCS: 21 St. John’s: 17.
The team put in an heroic effort, with standout performances by the O’Suilleabhain brothers, Ben O’Meara, David Curtin, and Liam Crowley. The team progess to the quarter final in the new year.
While schools in Ireland receive a certain level of funding from government annually it falls short of what is required to run all aspects of school life to the level required. Schools, like Carrigaline Community School, require additional funding through registration / school activity fees from parents / guardians to ensure that the students receive an appropriate level of broad education.
We thank those of you who have paid the Student Activity fee, which is voluntary but relied upon. Currently one third of the student population have paid this fee.
The current level of the payments received just about cover the cost of transport for sporting and other events, leaving a huge shortfall around the other expenses related to providing a quality service and experience for all students.
The student activity fee contributes towards:
Reducing costs of the school’s extra-curricular activities programme (for example bus hire, admission tickets, etc)
The cost of house examinations for the coming school year (excluding pre-state examinations)
Affiliation and entry fees for clubs and societies
Individual pupil insurance
Use of the VSWare app
We would encourage as many families as possible to pay this fee as soon as possible.
Click on the easypay link EASYPAY or simply call into the office .
Please note that from January there will be a minimum charge of €5 for all students travelling by bus to any school event (including sporting events / matches). This fee may be increased depending on the event destination and duration.
