Ni neart go cur le chéile
As we approach the end of the first half-term, an important milestone was reached; the annual indoor soccer match where the teachers (agèd, gentle academic types) take on the crème-de-le-crème of the student body in a forty minute demonstration of fair play and togetherness.
The match saw fabulous interplay and goal scoring opportunities for both sides, with "man of the match" James O' Connor (student) actually scoring an own-goal to give the teachers a three goal cushion coming into the final minutes.
The play was rapid-fire and back and forth, with both sides seeking to break apart the other's defences, however, when the final whistle sounded it was the teachers who emerged victorious. It was the teachers, gracious in victory who walked back to the classrooms, triumphant. The students though, can hold their heads high, as they join the ranks of 23 years of student defeats at the hands of an ever-ageing staff, some of whom, who can barely see the ball, never mind kick it.
Finally, as we end "Health Week" here in CCS, a massive thank you to Ms. Godsell and Ms. Bailey for organising, running and overseeing this worthy initiative. It continues to be one of the most important weeks in the school calendar.
On behalf of all our staff and students, have a restful midterm break.
The third year students had a very informative and interactive session with Mr O'Donovan - surviving the internet. Thanks to Mr O'Donovan for facilitating the workshop.
First year students completed a time capsule exercise, writing letters to themselves which they will open in May 2030 when they are finishing in CCS. They reflected on their subjects, friends, hobbies, social media and their future hopes and dreams. Thanks to the SPHE teachers for facilitating this exercise.
Thanks to Ms Stackpoole for facilitating an art workshop at lunch time for interested students as part of Health Week
We had another extremely successful MasterChef Competition this week. There were finalists from first to sixth year and all entries were really exceptional. Our visiting judges from MTU - Ms Catherine O'Mahony, Ms Ava O'Leary (Past Pupil) and Ms Eabha O'Regan were really impressed with the standard and found it difficult to pick a winner. Well done to Olivia Binduga (Year4) on winning this year. Huge thanks to Ms Bailey, Ms McSweeney and Ms O'Donoghue for their work in organising the competition.
Huge thanks to the TY students and Mr Corbett for putting our second year students through their paces during Health Week with a challenging Circuits class. Well done and great participation by the second year students.
Huge thanks to Col Conway from the Marie Keating Foundation for her very informative presentation to the sixth year students as part of Health Week. Col spoke of the importance of regular checks and focused on skin cancer, breast cancer and testicular cancer. Students learned a lot and we are very appreciative of the support from the Marie Keating Foundation for our Health Week.
Huge thanks to past pupil Margo Noonan (Cork Sexual Assault Treatment Centre) for speaking with our fourth year students on the topic of consent. It was very informative and there was great discussion amongst students around different scenarios presented. Thanks to Margo for dealing with this topic in such a clear manner. We encourage parents/guardians to continue these really important conversations at home.
Congratulations to all our TY students who complete the annual Health Week 8km walk on the Crosshaven walkway. Thankfully the sun shined and students had a nice afternoon. Thanks to Ms O'Donovan, Ms O'Connor, Mr McCarthy, Ms O'Sullivan, Mr Hickey, Ms Cogan and Ms Farley for accompanying the students.
Fifth year students had a very informative presentation from Nigel and Jamie from PTSB on the topic of money mules and fraud. This is something that is very pertinent to everyone and hopefully this session will make our students more alert to the potential hazards of the online financial world.
Thank you to Patrycja Zbikowska (Past Pupil) (Welfare President MTU SU) for talking with our sixth year students about the supports available in third level. A large number of our students go to MTU each year so it was a fantastic insight to get from Patrycja.
Well done to first year student winners of the design a sticker competition for Health Week.

Currently we have twenty students and three teachers representing Carrigaline in Rochester New York. The American Exchange has been an integral part of life in CCS since it beganin 1997. Irish students are paired with students from Fairport Highschool in Rochester. The exchange allows students to gain a unique opportunity to attend American Highschool and gain an understanding of American culture. Perhaps more importantly students form lifelong bonds of friendship and gain a huge sense of independence.
The students attend school of course, but in their free time they have excursions and visit places of interest. They see Niagara Falls and they also visit New York to see the sights!
A huge thank you to Ms. Keohane, Ms. Coughlan and Mr. McGrath who are leading this valuable excursion.

Parent Teacher Meetings
It has come to our attention that a parent, at a recent PTM, was recording the conversation between himself and a teacher. This is totally unacceptable and a possible breach of legislation. Please do not record any conversations without the express written permission of the teacher.
School Fleece
The Board of Management at it's recent meeting agreed to the introduction of a school crested fleece for students with the onset of colder weather. This fleece will be optional for the remainder of this academic year but we would encourage as many students as possible to purchase same. The wearing of coats and hoodies in the building is not allowed and will be confiscated for the remainder of the school day by staff once the fleeces area available for sale.
The fleece will be available from Cahills at a cost of €40. Cahills are currently in the process of ordering same and we will inform you when they are available, most likely just after mid-term. Please note that 4orm are no longer a supplier of school uniform items for Carrigaline Community School.
The schedule of activities (matches/speakers/assessments/outings etc) is available on the school website for parents/guardians to view. This is updated each week.
