Full day absence
Upon return to school, a note explaining the absence should be submitted. Parents/guardians can do this by filling in the appropriate absence request on VSWare. Alternatively, students can submit a handwritten note on the pink “absence note” slips which can be found at the back of the student journal. This should be submitted to the Year Head’s office and must be signed by a parent/guardian.
Students arriving late
Students arriving late to school must sign in at the main office upon arrival and get their journal stamped. The following day those students should present a note to the Year Head or put in a VSWare explanation for the reason for the lateness.
Students leaving early
While we encourage all students to limit medical and dental appointments etc. to times outside of the school day, we acknowledge that this may not always be possible.
Parents/Guardians should first enter the partial absence request on VSWare before 8.30 am. Students leaving early should report to the Year Head’s office upon arrival at school to check that the absence has been cleared on VSWare. All students leaving early are required to report to the main office to sign out before leaving the building, where it will be checked on VSWare. Students who have not had their absence request submitted on time and subsequently approved, will be sent back to class. Yellow “Permission to Leave School” slips at the back of the Student Journal, can be used as an alternative to VSWare. Again, these should be submitted to the Year Head’s office prior to the start of class on the day of departure.
Students who fall ill during the school day
Students who fall ill during the school day must contact the Year Head or Assistant YearHead. We will then phone home and arrange for the collection of the student.
Parents/guardians and past pupils of CCS will be aware of our system of Principal's Awards (whereby students could be nominated for an award at Christmas or at the Summer and nominated students received a Certificate). These Awards have a long standing reputation in CCS and in the local community.
This year, we are trialling another dimension to the way in which we acknowledge, recognise and encourage postitive behaviour in CCS. At various intervals throughout the school year, class teachers will select a maximum of four students (or as appropriate) from each class to receive a certificate for
Contribution/Commitment to ECA/Charity/School Events
Acts of Kindness
Marked improvement (this could be for work, attendance or behaviour)
Positive role model (participation, classwork, homework, uniform, attendance)
Although there are many students in each class that could get an award there will be a limit on the number of awards given each time. There will be various opportunities for students to get an Award during the year. These Class Teacher Awards will also influence the Principal's Awards given out at the end of each term.
The first lot of Class Teacher Awards will be given out during the week of 14th October.
Our sincere thanks to the very large number of students that assisted with Open Day. The comments back from the visiting students, families and teachers were that you were fantastic ambassadors for our school. We are indebted to you for your help on the Open Evening. There was a massive turnout on the night. Reminder that applications for first year for 2025/2026 close on October 14th. The application form is available on the school website.
We would like to express our appreciation for the incredible work our fantastic team of ANAs do every day. Your dedication, compassion, and patience make a world of difference for the students you support. We were delighted to acknowledge your work on National SNA Appreciation Day on 26th September. Thank you.
Our 1st and 2nd-year rugby players enjoyed a school blitz organised by Munster Rugby at Virgin Media Park on Tuesday. Special mention to Charles Onah from 1st year who won the 'Player of the Day' award and took home a match ball. Well done to all involved and thanks to Mr Sahani and Ms Kiely for coaching the students.
Thanks to Valerie O Connell CETB (representing the new generation apprenticeships) and Margaret Boyle SOLAS (representing the Craft Apprenticeships) for speaking with the sixth year students around careers in Apprenticeships. Thanks to Ms O'Connor, Ms Riordan and Ms Murphy for organising it.
There was a lovely atmosphere across the building on Wednesday the 9th of October as our Transition Year (and some Fifth Years) received their Junior Certificate results. At 12:20 a special assembly was called in the cafeteria and the students gathered in their 3rd Year class lines for the very last time. Some students on receiving their envelopes opened them immediately while others chose to open them at home with their parents. The results were of a consistently high standard. We want to take this opportunity to congratulate our students for their hard work and dedication and to all parents a heartfelt thank you for your ongoing support for the school.
Transition Years had a great session today with Pat from Forensic Fun. They used their analytical and critical thinking skills to investigate an assassination. Thanks to Ms O'Donovan for organising it.
The schedule of activities (matches/speakers/assessments/outings etc) is available on the school website for parents/guardians to view. This is updated each week.
