A message from the Principal
I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone back to a new academic year. A special welcome to our new First Year students and those new students joining us in years 2-6. We're delighted to have you as part of our school community and we hope that your time with us is a rewarding and happy one. As always, it has been a busy few weeks getting ready for the return for 2025-2026.
Special congratulations are extended to the Leaving Cert Class of 2025 on their outstanding results— they were a wonderful group to work with over your journey through CCS and they’ve made us all incredibly proud. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
Last year saw a unique project taking place in the school with the filming of "A Rebel Education". This 4 part documentary series will air on Virgin Media One later this year and it captures aspects of school life over the 2024-2025 academic year. Viewers can look forward to a heartwarming glimpse into student friendships, pupil-teacher bonds and the many struggles and triumphs that happen in just one year of schooling. We will keep you posted when it is to be aired.
I hope everyone has a happy and successful year.

Principal
The month of September saw the highly anticipated delivery of the chromebooks for 2nd Years. CCS has partnered with OliveForEducation an Irish owned tech company dedicated to education in second level schools. The process began back in February of this year when parents and students were invited to a meeting in school to discuss the roll-out of computers for 2nd Years.
Technology has become so much a part of daily life and both school work and state exams have begun to reflect this. Throughout the junior cycle students are producing project work as part of the exams process and now changes at leaving certificate have begun to reflect this also. By the time the current 2nd Years reach the leaving cert, every subject will have a project component to it! Hence the ever increasing need for chromebooks.
A payment scheme was put in place, both with OliveforEducation and with the local credit union. Many parents availed of these options. The chromebooks themselves have a 5 year warranty, are of a high spec and will serve the students all the way to their final exams with us.
We as a staff have begun the process of adapting teaching and learning to best suit the changing model. We have engaged with further training to aid us with embedding the use of the chromebooks. We have also opted to purchase software which will monitor and guide the use of the chromebooks collectively when being used in the building.
We are excited to be pioneering these changes.
The rollout of the Free book scheme has been taking place since we have returned to school. This has been a huge organisational task which is still ongoing. At this stage students should have received their textbooks and stationery. It is important to be aware that the books that they have been given are barcoded and the school has a record of all of the books that have been given to each student. At the end of the Junior and Senior cycle all books must be returned to the school so that they can be given to a new cohort of students. It is very important therefore that the books are looked after and returned in good condition . If books are lost or stolen at any time the school is not in a position to replace them, this is the responsibility of the student. Students have also been given stationery that should cover the requirements of their specific subjects for the year. Additional stationery that is needed during the year will not be covered under this scheme. We are asking for your cooperation to ensure that everyone looks after their books and supplies carefully.
A huge thank you to Ms Regan O'Broin and her team of Transition Year students who have been working on this since mid August. The students have been outstanding in their commitment to getting the books organised and distributed. It would not have been possible to run the scheme without their input. Missing from photo Adam Murphy.
A huge congratulations to our students on their incredible Leaving Certificate results. It was fantastic to have so many students call back in to school on the results day to meet and thank their teachers. We are very proud of all that you have achieved. There was a huge turnout for the Debs Ball in Rochestown Park Hotel on Thursday 28th August. It was a lovely evening of celebration of a great group of students.
We wish them every happiness and success in the future as they move forward into new and exciting chapters of their lives.
Our 1st Years took a break from the books on Wednesday 17th of September to enjoy a Bonding Day on the school grounds. Activities such a s Benchball, Capture the Flag, Mini-Olympics, Art/Colouring and Rounders. ...and there was even time for Hot Chocolate from Nigel's. A huge thank you to Ms O'Donovan and her TY students who planned and ran the day so well and to of the many other staff members who helped out.

James Bryan, one of our current TY students, has been busy on the sporting fields recently. James was a key member of the school U16 hurling and football teams who won their respective County championships in the '24/'25 school year.
While representing the school so well on the Gaa pitch, James has also been performing at the top level on the hockey pitch. Injury denied James the opportunity to play in the International tournaments this summer but he did get himself back fit in time to play with Munster in the U18 Interpros. James (#4 in red) and the Munster team travelled up north to Lisnagarvey hockey club where they played 2 matches against Ulster and 2 against Leinster.
Congratulations to our Senior Camogie team who had a comprehensive win over Millstreet Community School on September 9th. Well done to coaches Ms. Coughlan and Ms. O' Connell.
In CCS we have students from 43 different nationalities. We are incredibly proud to be a diverse inclusive school community. This rich mix of cultures, languages, and perspectives helps our students learn from one another, fostering empathy, global awareness, and an ability to work together.
Updates and information pertaining to the running of the school
Thank you to the many parents/guardians that have paid the Activity Fee or Transition Year Fee to date. This money is essential for the running of the school and enables us to give students a broad, rich and engaging experience in school.
An annual Student Activity Fee of €120 for an individual pupil is requested to help defray the running costs of the many activities within the school.
For students in Transition Year the fee is €300, which includes the costs of most of the in school activities/programmes students take part in during TY (bonding trips, workshops and guest speakers). The TY fee can be paid in two installments of €150 if this is preferable. We request that the full TY fee be paid by 31st October 2025 to facilitate the booking of workshops etc.
The Board of Management of the school has capped the fees to a maximum of two students per household but the full TY fee must be paid.
Examples of how the cap is applied:
A family with two children attending CCS, where the students are in any year group other than TY, are asked to pay 2 x €120 = €240.
A family with two children attending CCS, where one of the students is in TY, are asked to pay €120 + €300 = €420.
A family with three (or more) children attending CCS, where the students are in any year group other than TY, are asked to pay 2 x €120 = €240.
A family with three (or more) children attending CCS, where one of the students is in TY, are asked to pay €120 + €300 = €420.
In the case where a family has two students in TY the fee is 2 x €300 = €600.
