Parents and Prevention

CUSD will host a 5 week series of workshops focused on safety, awareness, prevention and mindfulness. Learn useful, up-to-date information on issues impacting children including texting and driving, responsible social media use, latest trends with drugs and alcohol, and ways for teens to handle stress.

All workshops will take place at the Carlsbad Police Department Safety Conference Center located at 2560 Orion Way, Carlsbad, CA 92010. These workshops are open to CUSD parents, students and the community.

WEEK #1: Carlsbad Cops and The Community

Topics: Cops and Youth, Social Host Ordinance, Prescription Medications Drop Box, Keeping Kids Safe

WEEK #3: Responsible Social Media

Tuesday, May 16, 2017 6:00-7:00 pm

Topic: Learn about the latest technology trends and apps that children are using. Learn ways to make sure your child is using social media responsibly including how to implement a Parent-Youth Technology Contract.

WEEK #4: Just the Facts – Youth and the Laws

WEEK #5: Teens: Brains, Bodies, Stress & Success

Tuesday May 30, 2017 6:00-7:00 pm

Topic: This workshop will introduce the scientific background regarding the physical and mental effects of stress and mindfulness as it applies to teens. The workshop will include practices that focus on 3 strands: 1) self care techniques, 2) resiliency, and 3) full presence.
