The 1970-71 Occupation of Mount Rushmore was organized by the United Native Americans (UNA) and American Indian Movement (AIM) as part of the Red Power movement. The main goal of the protest was to call out the violation of treaty rights to that land, and the ongoing desecration of the sacred Black Hills.
