2021-Present
The Tamarack Mine is a proposed copper-nickel mine in northern Minnesota that, if approved, would be located near sites of cultural importance to the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and other Indigenous communities. This is not the first time that resistance to extractive multinational corporation mining-related projects has occurred in northern Minnesota to mitigate ecological destruction. Selective engagement with legal systems have been used to thwart proposed copper-nickel mines in the past. The Movement to Stop Line 3 was also largely based in Northern Minnesota and part of the pipeline goes near where the Tamarack Mine is supposed to be built.
