MyODP is a free, online resource platform, designed to keep people informed about relevant news, information, training, and resources related to developmental programs and services in Pennsylvania. It serves as a learning management system and a central hub for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, and professionals in the field.
As per 55 Pa. Code § 6100, annual training hours for DSPs working with "traditional" ODP participants (not SSPs working with AWC participants) must include "The safe and appropriate use of behavior supports".
Once you have created an account with MyODP, from the home screen, click on "Topics" and then select "6100 Requirements". Scroll to the bottom of the page until you see the last listed training category, "Safe & Appropriate Use of Behavior Supports -- § 6100.143(C)(5)".
Please complete the following three (3) training courses on MyODP by watching the available videos. Once each course is complete, please download and/or print the evidence of training confirmation and send the evidence of all three courses to your direct supervisor.

During this time of uncertainty that can be challenging for individuals and supporters, the key to effective supports is flexibility in meeting the individual needs of the people we support.
While natural supports, such as family and friends, may be able to provide guidance, behavioral supports may be funded for the participants to get certified and trained Behavioral Specialists to create plans that the entire support team can follow to maximize its benefits.
When someone is struggling with challenging behaviors, a Behavior Support Plan can make a significant, positive impact when it is implemented and followed through. Using evidence-based strategies and personalized approaches, a Behavior Support Plan focuses on understanding the root causes of behaviors and implementing effective intervention strategies. When we address the underlying issues and provide targeted support, individuals can overcome challenges, develop new skills, and experience positive change in their lives.
It's crucial for you to have a basic understanding of behavioral supports even if your participant doesn't currently receive them because it helps ensure the individual's health and safety and can prevent future behavioral challenges. Knowledge of behavioral supports allows employees to identify potential triggers, implement preventative strategies, and respond appropriately to challenging behaviors that may arise, regardless of whether a formal plan is in place.
Preventing Harm:
Understanding behavioral supports, even without a formal plan, enables employees to recognize situations that might escalate into challenging behaviors and implement preventative strategies.
Promoting Positive Outcomes:
Knowing how to respond to challenging behaviors in a positive and supportive manner can prevent escalation and promote positive outcomes for the individual.
Safety:
Basic knowledge of behavioral supports can help staff respond appropriately and safely to behaviors that may be harmful to the individual or others, contributing to overall safety.
Flexibility and Adaptability:
Even if an individual isn't currently receiving behavioral supports, their needs can change over time, and staff should be prepared to adapt to those changes. Having a foundational understanding allows staff to respond effectively to new situations.
