As per Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) Bulletin number 00-20-04, "Participant-Directed Services: Agency with Choice Financial Management Services Model", issued on 12.16.2020: "Ensuring that SSPs who provide assistance with medications receive training on medication assistance specific to the needs of the individuals whom the SSPs will be assisting."
Please be aware that medication assistance is participant specific based upon the participant's needs. If the participant has a need for medication assistance, it will be identified and indicated in the participant's ISP under goals, objectives, and/or outcomes.
Regardless of the current medication assistance needs of their participants (need/receive medication assistance, do not need/do not receive medication assistance), all SSPs need to review our Agency's medication policies for awareness and understanding.
As per the ODP Bulletin referenced above, if a participant has a need for medication assistance and the SSP will be involved and/or providing the service, "training may be provided by the Managing Employer with assistance from the AWC if requested by the Managing Employer. The AWC may, at its discretion, require SSPs to complete a Department-approved medication administration course as described § 6100.468."
