Cardinal Mooney Catholic is pleased to announce and welcome Alyssa Scalici as our new Head Varsity Volleyball Coach. Alyssa’s duties will begin immediately.
Currently Coach Scalici is a student at University of Detroit Mercy studying Health Information Management and Nursing. She is a graduate of Macomb Dakota where she played volleyball and helped the team win the 2012 Class A State Championship.
Alyssa most recently was the Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach at L’Anse Creuse North. She has also coached at the club level with the Crank It Volleyball Club. Her teams recently finished 3rd in State in 2018 and 2nd in the State in 2017.
Cardinal Mooney is excited to have Coach Scalici as part of our community and our family and look forward to a great season this fall.
On Thursday, June 14th, Coach Scalici invites all girls interested in volleyball and their parents to attend an informational meeting at 5:00 pm in the Activity Center’s cafeteria.
Cardinal Mooney Catholic is pleased to announce Jerry Luzynski as the new head varsity girls basketball coach for the 2018+ season. Coach Luzynski replaces 2-year head coach Mike Lombard.
Coach Luzynski most recently was the JV coach at Mooney for the girls basketball program, while also spending the last two years assisting the Mooney Girls varsity program. Jerry has been coaching boys and girls basketball since 2012 for Immaculate Conception Catholic School, which competes in the Blue Water Athletic League. Coach Luzynski brings over 16 years of combined basketball experience to Mooney. He played in high school for Warren DeLaSalle Collegiate under Gary Buslepp and Greg Esler and continued his playing career at Adrian College. Jerry is also the athletic director for Immaculate Conception Catholic School, a current member and former officer of the Knights of Columbus and stays busy watching his 3 kids, Lauren, Kathryn and Jack compete in various school and travel sports.
Coach Luzynski will assume the complete operation of the Mooney girls basketball program effective as of June 1st, 2018.
6/2/2018 - MHSAA Baseball District #124-4
Congratulations to our Mooney Baseball team who defeated New Life Christian 19-2 and Parkway Christian 9-2 to earn the District Championship title. The team will play Plymouth Christian in the Regional first round Saturday, June 9 - 10am at GPW Liggett.
6/2/2018 - MHSAA D4 State Finals - Hudsonville HS, Grand Rapids
Congratulations to our Track Relay teams for setting new Mooney school records at the State Track Finals in Grand Rapids.
Boys 4x400 Relay team of Luke Schulte, Zachary Schafer, Larry DeDalis, and Ben Perry set a new school record of 3:44.72.
Girls 4x200 Relay team of Lauren Luzynski, Molly Lombard, Nina Carlin, Megan Kammer set a new school record of 1:52.40.
6/1/2018 - MHSAA Girls Soccer District #58-4
Congratulations to our Mooney Soccer team who defeated Memphis 5-1 to win the District Championship. The team advances to the MHSAA Regional round where they will face GPW Liggett at Bishop Foley on Tuesday, June 5 - 7:00 pm.

The following members of the Mooney Track team qualified for the State Track Finals which will be held Saturday, June 2 in Grand Rapids.
Women's 4x200 Relay - Lauren Luzynski, Molly Lombard, Nina Carlin, Megan Kammer qualified and set new school record with a time of 1:53.83, breaking the record of 1:56.16 set in April at the Oxford Meet.
Women's 4x400 Relay - Lauren Luzynski, Molly Lombard, Ariela Gashaj, Nina Carlin qualified with a time of 4:46.11
Men's 4x400 Relay - Luke Schulte, Zachary Schafer, Larry DeDalis, Ben Perry qualified and set a new school record with a time of 3:46.38, breaking the record of 3:47.40 set in 1992.
1600 Meters - Ben Perry qualified with a time of 4:47.76
5/8/2018 - Mooney Baseball finishes in Catholic League Play at 13-3 and is currently 15- 4 overall, clinches their first Catholic League Playoff spot since 2002. Ranked 7th MHSBCA Division 4 team in state.
2/18/2018 - Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School is pleased to announce Joe Quesnelle as our new Varsity Head Football Coach.
Joe has coached in the Catholic High School League almost exclusively since 1986. After coaching in the CYO for 5 years at St. Angela, he became an assistant coach at Bishop Gallagher High School during some of their most successful seasons from 1986 through 1992. After two years as an assistant at East Detroit HS, Joe returned to the Catholic League as the Head Coach of Detroit Holy Redeemer.
During his time as head coach at Holy Redeemer, his teams racked up a record of 46-26, winning the League’s divisional championships and qualifying for the State playoffs several years. Following the 2002 season, Joe coached at Mt. Clemens HS (2003) and Harper Woods Notre Dame (2004).
Joe then moved onto Royal Oak Shrine HS, where he has coached since 2005. During his time at Shrine, he was the Special Teams coordinator and running backs and linebackers coach. Shrine won 92 games through the 2017 season, qualifying for the State playoffs in 11 of the 13 seasons he was coaching there.
Joe is a member of the Catholic League High School League Hall of Fame, elected in 2009 and has several Coach of the Year honors. Cardinal Mooney is excited to have Coach Quesnelle join our Cardinal Mooney family.
2/12/2018 - Cardinal Mooney Catholic is pleased to announce Frank Schodowski as head varsity Girls Soccer Coach. Coach Schodowski replaces long time head coach and principal Jason Petrella who stepped down last year due to time constraints.
Coach Schodowski has most recently been the boys and girls JV coach at Macomb Dakota. Since 2012, he has been the Vice President of the United Soccer League serving over 1300 youth soccer players. He is also the owner and operator of his own business, (Kickstart My Kid) while working in skilled trades for Ford.
He has coached several travel teams over the years in programs such as The Nationals, Gators FC/ FC Nova, and Vardar East. Coach Schodowski assumes the complete operation of the Cardinal Mooney program immediately.
