On February 7, five Gator football players signed with their respective colleges, ensuring their place on the college football teams. The signing was filled with people eager to see the players sign the papers that would continue their athletic career and take them to a whole new level of athletics. Family members stood behind them, smiles on their faces, as each player stood up and gave a short statement before uncapping the blue pen that would determine their future in athletics. Friends, coaches, and fellow football players were also there, surrounding the green and gold signing table to watch, support, and celebrate with the recruits.

“I’m honored, that’s all I can say,” Stephen Smith said. “I’m happy for all the players that signed today. Without the coaches and my parents, I wouldn’t be here, and I definitely give credit to God.” He is currently a receiver for the Gators, and will go on to play for the Mississippi College Choctaws.

“I was waiting for this offer, worked hard for it, even during the off-season,” Alfonso Deleon said, capturing how hard he had worked for the opportunity. The statement also reflects how each player might have felt during the event. Deleon is Shreve’s current punter, and will go on to play for the Southern Arkansas Muleriders.

“It’s a big honor.” Micah Latin said. “I didn’t think it would happen.” Latin is a defensive end for the Gators. He will go on to play for the Louisiana College Wildcats.

“My hard work paid off, I’m so blessed,” Colton Gill said. “We have a good athletic foundation at Shreve.” Gill is a current offensive lineman for the Gators, and will go on to play for the University of Arkansas Monticello Boll Weevils.

“Signing with these guys that I have been playing with for years is great,” Colyn Givens said. “Captain Shreve football helped me go to the next step.” Givens is a defensive end for the Gators, and will go on to play for the Southern University Jaguars.

Smith, Deleon, Gill, Givens and Latin are now all committed and each of them look forward to continuing to play football at each of their colleges.
