The 2023 Stuart Calvert Award is a one-time award designed to assist secondary school students who plan to pursue full-time studies in music or music education at a recognized post-secondary institute. The Award is given in recognition of Stuart Calvert’s career as an arranger and conductor which has taken him from Glace Bay to London and beyond. While internationally acclaimed, Stuart Calvert has never forgotten his roots and has created countless scores for the Cape Breton Orchestra and The Cape Breton Chorale.
Applicants must be in Grade 12, in good academic standing, and enrolled in a school in the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education.
Applicants must be accepted into a music or music education degree program, or certificate program at a recognized postsecondary institute or conservatory.
Applications must be completed according to the Application Requirements.
Compose an application letter addressed to the Stuart Calvert Award Committee, dated, and signed. In your letter, include your views on music and/or music education, share your personal goals as a musician, and discuss your plans for participating in the field of music after completing your degree or program. You may also briefly discuss a few important musical highlights or accomplishments. Otherwise, details about your experience and training should be included in your music résumé.

3. Provide two letters of recommendation from either your music teachers, conductors or directors, or other music professionals who have worked with you.
4. Enclose an official transcript from your high school.
5. Completed applications including all materials must be postmarked no later than June 15th, or submitted by email no later than 11:59 pm that day.
