We appreciate your interest in substitute teaching with Canyon ISD. If you are disabled, please advise the district of any need for a reasonable accommodation. If you need assistance completing the application, you may call the CISD Human Resources Department at 806-677-2607 or visit the District Support Center and ask for assistance.
Once your application is submitted, a background check will be completed (Texas Education Code 22.083 authorizes a school district to obtain a criminal history of every applicant) and your references will be emailed a survey to be filled out. Once your references complete the survey, you will be sent a One Way Video Interview. As soon as you complete this step, your application will be complete and you will receive an email inviting you to the Substitute Training.
A high school diploma or GED is the minimum required to be eligible to substitute teach. A copy of your high school diploma/transcript, GED or college transcripts will be required upon submission of your application. You may attach copies of these documents to the application, or email your documents to HR@canyonisd.net. We must receive these documents before training.
Once you have registered for the training, you will receive your new hire onboarding email from Alejandra Palacios with electronic documents that must be filled out. Once your documents have been completed, you will then receive an email with instructions on how to setup your email address and change your password (changepassword.canyonisd.net), EduHero training, and CRT Training. The link will be emailed to your new email address. Complete the EduHero training and email Alejandra Palacios with your certificates attached. You will then need to complete the CRT Training and fill out the Google form.
Now that you have completed your online training, Adriana Romero will send you a Google calendar invite with a preselected day for you to choose a time to come and get fingerprinted. If you have previously worked in a school in Texas that is recognized by TEA, then you will not need to be fingerprinted. Fingerprinting is $47.99 and will be reimbursed to you once you have worked 20 or more days AND are still an active substitute at the end of the school year.
You must bring the following items with you to the training:
Voided check or a bank verification letter – used for direct deposit of payroll check (if you have already done this do not bring it again)
Social Security Card to verify for Payroll - We do not accept copies
Employment verification documents for the I-9 form – click here to see acceptable document types
Training Classes are by INVITATION ONLY -- you will be sent an emailed invitation to sign up for the class after your application has been approved. All classes will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. and finish no later than 11:00 a.m. at the District Support Center. Please arrive early at 8:45 a.m. for check-in procedures and remember to bring your Drivers License and Social Security Card.
