3rd graders presented their knowledge about animal classification to family members and classmates. What a great opportunity to demonstrate their communication skills. Thank you to all of the family members who joined us for that time.
5th graders are demonstrating tenacity during Mr. Kanapackis's music class as they learn how to play the recorder. They also demonstrate communication and collaboration skills by working with their groups during music time. I know how much your parents love it when you practice at home:)

The Canon City Fire Department joined us to help our students learn more about fire safety and fire science. Kindergarten learned more through a puppet show, 3rd graders were able to ride the old fire engine, and 5th graders learned about fire science and extinguishing fires. All grade levels were given activities to work on in class and take home. The fire department also helps with our fire drill for the month on that day. Thank you again to all of the firemen who helped make that day educational for our students.
The first PTO movie night of the year was a big hit. We had over 100 attendees. Watch for more fun activities to come. Use the QR code to Follow us on Facebook.

Save the Dates
There is no school from November 21-30 for our Thanksgiving break.
Coming Soon!
Our PTO meeting is scheduled for November 17th starting at 3:30 in the Maker Space.
We will be planning some fun events for families. We hope to see you there!
The Canon Theater has invited us to a holiday film on December 8th. K-2 students will go in the morning and 3-5 students will go in the afternoon. Please watch for more detailed information to come home as the date gets closer.
Middle of Year Testing
Right after Thanksgiving break students will begin their middle of year testing for reading and math. The best way to keep their reading skills up over the break is to have them read out loud to an adult 20 minutes a day. A good way to keep up their math skills over the break is to verbally have them skip count by different numbers, and for 2nd-5th graders, practice math facts daily.
Giftedness can look different in every child. Some gifted learners are high-achieving, while others may be quiet, quirky, or even struggle in school. That’s why we use multiple measures—test scores, teacher input, and creativity indicators—to get a full picture of a student’s potential. We believe in finding and nurturing all kinds of talent.
