Achievement matrix

Given the developmental nature of the paracanoe pathway within Scotland the inclusion of paracanoe athletes within the performance squads setup will be taken on a case by case basis and will require the agreement of the Head of Performance and Pathways, Sprint Squad coaches and Paracanoe pathway officer. The decision making process will be focused around the following factors.

1. Trajectory. If not currently achieving comparable performance percentages of Medal Winning Time to squad paddlers then do they have the potential to achieve this standard within 1-2 years? Particular consideration will be given to athletes demonstrating strong athlete behaviours and mindset as evidenced through achievement in different sports.

The coaches and athletes will work together to set shared training and competition markers across short, medium and long timescales. These markers will align with the standards for selection onto GB squads, with the goal to achieve World Class Programme selection. These markers will be reviewed by the coach and athlete.

2. Performance based. Is the athlete's paddling standard at such a level that they can integrate into the squad without impacting on the overall feasibility of running sessions?

Inclusion into Performance training groups will be managed by the coaches through a phased approach. Coaches and athletes will work together to achieve a level of technical capability that will build the athletes capacity to train alongside other squad members and allow for phased integration into the Performance training and competition group.

3. Need/suitability. Would inclusion in the squad set up support their development at the current time?

Consideration will also be given to those athletes capable of inclusion into the Performance programme who may wish to train independently. Coaches and athletes will work together to develop a programme that meets the needs of the athlete, whilst maintaining a trajectory to shared training and competition markers that align with the GB selection standards.

*Please note that paracanoe selections will be taken on a case by case basis and won't be fixed to the timescale for Olympic Sprint and Slalom selections.

Classification
