What is the Science of Reading?
The Science of reading is a vast, interdisciplinary body of scientific-based research about reading and writing.
Explicit and systematic phonics instruction is critical for learning to read. Direct explicit instruction is required in order for students to successfully decode words.
Word recognition plus language comprehension equals reading comprehension.
Language comprehension includes building background knowledge, vocabulary, language structures, verbal reasoning andl literacy knowledge.
