Polly Campbell is Clinical Director of the Advanced Nursing Education Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (ANE-SANE) Program, at the University of New England School of Nursing and Population Health. The ANE SANE Program is a unique public/private partnership to strengthen the state’s existing, innovative Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Program funded by a grant from the Health Resources Services Administration.
For 16 years Polly was the Director of the Maine State Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Program and has over 35 years of experience working in the field of interpersonal violence. In addition to direct service with victim/survivors of abuse and violence, she has developed and implemented statewide education, training and service programs that brought together professionals from various disciplines to better meet the needs of adult and child victims of violence and abuse; and co-authored guidelines and curricula related to interpersonal violence.
In 2016 Polly attended the 4-day Advanced Strangulation course at the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention; the Masters Course at the Institute in 2018; the Expert Witness course in 2023; the day long course offered through the International Association of Forensic Nurses; and multiple full and half day presentations on the issue. Polly provides education for multi-disciplinary teams and health care providers on the health impact of non-fatal strangulation. In addition, she has been qualified as an expert and testified in over 20 criminal trials in Maine.
Polly currently sits on the Maine Domestic Violence Homicide Review Panel, the Board of Directors of the Maine Elder Abuse Institute, and the SAFE Program Advisory Board Kit Tracking Committee; and the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) Nominations, and Social Justice Committees. She is Past-President (2013) and board member of the IAFN, and has been active in the Association since 2006.
In 2023 she was the recipient of the IAFN Kim Day Service Award, and in 2019 was named Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner of the Year by the Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
